Pulprat Too Much For Competition In Love Muffins Stakes

On a beautiful sunny Saturday at the Ohio track, all eyes were to the sky when there wasn’t a race going on at the track.  The rumors were flying, and everybody was hoping to catch the first glimpse to the Trump helicopter that was supposed to be carrying the official awards presenter of the fifteenth race, the G III Love Muffins Stakes.  Alas, the chopper never arrived and with it no tiara or sash for this years winner PULPRAT. 

Not that this lack of a celebrity appearance seemed to affect the runners.  Right out of the gate, BASSETT GIRL grabbed the lead ahead of PULPRAT and held on by no more than a neck at the half way point.  MP JO and HAWKEYESTATEOFMIND were running third and fourth respectively about two to three lengths back of the leaders while PERSIAN CAVALRY, POMEROY’S QUEST, and PREDILECTION were at the back.  At the half mark and continuing into the stretch, the odds on favorite displayed why she was the popular choice by turning on a very nice closing kick.  BASSETT GIRL gave a good effort to keep up the charging mare, but just could not keep the pace PULPRAT was setting.  While the battle was taking place in the front of the pack, MP JO was fading badly giving HAWKEYESTATEOFMIND sole possession of third.  This possession seemed solid until the final half of the stretch when a hard charging PREDILECTION came from the back of the pack to just make the board.  Because of this generousity, HAWKEYESTATEOFMIND was voted Ms. Congeniality and enjoyed a basket of apples.  PULPRAT paid $6.70 for the win, BASSETT GIRL $5.30 for the place, and PREDILECTION $4.70 for the show.  There was no word from the Trump camp on why the billionaire was a ‘no show.’
