Value Sires and Broodmares
It’s been a while since I last wrote a bargain breeding article. I began to get the itch again and decided to dig deep into the well of lost sires. My first find was a sire that really intrigued me named Blue Gum. I then found Agnes World who intrigued me further. I threw in a couple of real long shots with nice pedigree in Wellbeing and Seattle Syn for good measure.
My idea was to look for small successes with the hope that their luck can last a little longer. Some of these positive results may be do to complete luck, with others maybe something is there. At the least you will not need to spend much to find out if these sires and broodmares can be useful on a cheap play. Good luck to you all and enjoy!
Blue Gum (AUS)
Bluebird x Star Shower x Stormbird
Blue Gum is a mystery to me. I don’t know anything about the sire in real life. I don’t have his race records if any exist, and I have a small list of progeny which includes seven mares and one male. None of those progeny have race records that I can see, and all but one was born in 2001.
Blue Gum is in his first year of sire in the sim, and the sim results are too interesting to ignore. One thing is certain, Blue Gum can be had cheap, and thus far the results have been very impressive for the price.
Blue Gum has four sim offspring, and three of those are fillies. This seems to correspond with Blue Gum’s real life breeding affinity for producing mares. Gotta Go To Bed bred by Matf has one start and a win with a 6 speed. The filly is out of War Chant and looks to be off to a nice start. Love Your Gums, bred by mqprice also has one start and one win, but his win was with blazing 82 speed on dirt. Blue Gum Girl has one race and a second place finish while running a speed of 74. The only other progeny is Son Of A Gum bred by Mexican, but was not impressive in only start. That colt is probably the best named, but the loan colt by Blue Gum may struggle.
Three impressive looking babies from one first year sire costing 67 bp’s when I wrote this on Tuesday warrants attention, and thus Blue Gum is my bargain find of the week.
Agnes World
Agnes World made over 3 million in earnings in 20 career starts with eight wins, six places, and one show. He won two G1’s, the 2000 July Cup held in
In the sim as I type this Agnes World is going for 167 bp’s or credits. As sire Agne’s World has 22.2% winners this year with $8,571 earnings per runner. Run The World bred by Seedly2 has two starts and one win. The win came in the colts second start and both races he ran a 70 speed on dirt. Agnes World is not without a history of stakes runners in the sim either, and even has a G1 runner named Grand Arbiter bred by Lender2 with $480,540 in career earnings. Agnes is definitely a potential bargain sire that can also be used as dam sire. Nice potential value here!
Wellbeing (GB)
Sadler’s Wells x Sir Tristram x Northern Dancer
Wellbeing was a distance runner that won the Grand Prix De Compiegne, Prix Gontaut – Biron, Perpetual Stakes, and the Godolphin Stakes. Wellbeing has excellent pedigree combined with a solid race career.
In the sim Wellbeing has only one runner this year. That runner sired by Testa Rossa has been nothing special, but last years loan runner with Wellbeing as dam sire is looking very solid at three with speeds of 88,87,86,81,and 92 in last five starts. Fall Season bred by Xanthu3 looks like it may progress nicely.
In Wellbeing’s last year as sire in the sim he produced Playing Ground bred by Sesho17. That horse won the Techranger Irish Stakes in 2007 and has been a very fine race horse with over 200k in lifetime earnings. His top speed was a 107 in a turf allowance. That is not bad coming from the likes of (Wellbeing x Future Storm x Intrepid Hero) respectively. Wellbeing doesn’t look to show many signs of being much of a dam sire, but may be able to help produce a good cheaply bred horse if one needs some Sadler’s Wells blood for a nice cheap turfer.
I didn’t find race records for Seattle Syn, and his list of progeny was short and unimpressive. I did however see he has been a bit lucky as a dam sire in the sim and probably deserves a few more long shot tries. His price stands at a meager 38 points as I type this. You can use Seattle Syn as sire or dam sire in the sim, but his sire numbers lack something to be desired. At dam sire in 2007 his loan runner by Bmw2 looks solid. Although the horse has never broke maidens it has run speeds of 86, 82, and 92 respectively with 66k in earnings in 13 starts. Bandana bred by Bmw2 this year has been looking impressive early. Bandana is the loan baby this year with Seattle Syn as dam sire. The chestnut colt has run 67, and 69 speeds in the slop on dirt this year, and a 73 on dry land. The horse is coming off of two consecutive wins. In his first start he finished third. He has already earned 52k+ in earnings, and looks like a real solid colt. Maybe Bmw2 is onto something here. Seattle Syn could be worth a flyer for those seeking some cheap Seattle Slew bloodlines.
