G1, Adelaid Oaks: Which of these fillies get their first graded win?

This week we head to Queensland to take a look at the nice 3 year old fillies that will be running in the G1, Adelaide Oaks.  These fillies will travel a mile and a half (12f) on what will be listed as a firm turf track at post time.  In this field of nice fillies there are no graded winners, but this will change at the conclusion of this race as one will come out with a G1 win if they can get to the wire first.  Last year I had the honors of previewing the 2022 Adelaide Oaks where we saw the filly, Americansteriotype who is owned by the Tenpoint master stables get up for the win by four and a half lengths.  The morning line odds have been released and the post positions have been drawn.  Let us now take a preview of the nine fillies that have entered the G1, Adelaide Oaks in Queensland.

Coming out first we will see this Bay Filly (TEOFILO x DUBAWI (IRE) x STORM CAT) who is out of the master stables of last year’s winner Tenpoint.  He finds another nice filly that he feels is up for the challenge this Saturday as she has been running fairly well as she continues to stretch out in distance.  Last time out we saw her on 04/23/2023 in South Korea going 10 furlongs in a Listed Stakes, Mother Deputy Turf Filly Route.  He bolted from the gate grabbing the lead quickly and put over five lengths between her and the closest competitor.  By the third call she we out in front by 10 lengths.  She would be run down late in her stretch run and crossed the wire in second just a quarter off with a 103 speed rating.  The owner looks for another good race out of his filly when they head out at post time representing the All-Stars Racing residency.

Next, we will see this Chestnut Filly (SEA THE STARS x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY x FASTNET ROCK (AUS)) who has also been stretching out in distance in her most recent starts.  Two starts back she got the win going 9 furlongs in an allowance race in Ireland.  She was then moved up in class for her most recent start on 04/15/2023 in Victoria where she would go 10 furlongs in a Listed Stakes, Devils Slide Turf Filly Challenge.  She ran a pretty flat race in this outing and would cross the wire in fourth with a 97 speed rating.  She will be making another big jump in class this weekend when she heads over to the turf representing the East-West Connection residency.

Here we have a Chestnut Filly (FASTNET ROCK (AUS) x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY x GALILEO (IRE)) who has earned her SP badge by hitting the boards twice recently in Listed Stakes races.  Three starts back she ran second in the River Nicole Turf Filly Route and then followed that up with a third place finish in the Sunshine Hollandia Turf Filly Memorial.  Her most recent start then came on 04/10/2023 in New Zealand where she would go 8.5 furlongs in a $46600 NW4x Allowance.  This was a small field of four horses and she did not show up with her best race in tow.  She would cross under the wire in third, but was over eight lengths back with an 88 speed rating.  She will need to show up in Queensland this Saturday with a much bigger effort when she heads over to her gate draw representing the Elite Racing Club residency.

4BALTIC GOLDEN HORNGB3Fkimugle12D Ledwith9367%$96,2170.885/1

Next, we will see this Bay Filly (GOLDEN HORN (GB) x GALILEO (IRE) x DYNAFORMER) who has seen her shares of successes and disappointment in her five prior starts this 2023 season.  She has only one prior Listed Stakes starts to her credit and that came back in February which would not be a welcoming start as she moved up in class from the allowance level.  In her most recent start, we saw one of her successes as she went out on 04/29/2023 in Newmarket going 7.5 furlongs in a $30400 NW2x Local Allowance.  She would stalk the lead in this race and when ask for more effort in her stretch run, she would grab the lead and cross the wire in front by one and a half strides with a 95 speed rating.  She will have a lot longer distance to travel here in the Adelaide Oaks and will need to pace herself in this trip on Saturday as she heads out of the paddock representing the European Union Racing Organization.

5RIGHT AND LIESJPN3FvvardenfellZ Kentucky8375%$238,6408.755/2

This is a Brown Filly (BRICKS AND MORTAR x SADLER’S WELLS x ALYDAR) who two starts back proved a graded competitor when she would finish third in the G1, The Japanese 1000 Guineas.  She was then sent out on 04/23/2023 in Newmarket where she would go 8 furlongs in the G1, The 1000 Guineas.  This time out would not be as fruitful as her prior start in Japan as she finished eleventh and off by four lengths in a very tight field of contenders.  She gets one of her favorite jockeys back in the saddle this weekend and we have seen them do very well together in the past.  They will saddle up in the paddock and come out in the post parade representing the GR Simsters residency.

6WOETTE’S BUDAFR3FurkoP Lannoo8287%$149,7998.508/1

Next, we will see this Bay Filly (HELLO YOUMZAIN (FR) x KINGMAMBO x DANZIG) who in eight prior starts has only missed hitting the boards once.  That miss was early on in her 2 year old season which we will ignore.  After coming in second in two Local Allowance starts, she would be moved up in class for her most recent trip to the track on 04/23/2023 in the Czech Republic.  She would be asked to go 10.5 furlongs in this start, and she was not hesitant to run.  She had a great start out of the gate and never looked back.  By the second call of the race, she was out in front by over nine lengths and would hold on to her lead all the way to the wire winning by four with a 94 speed rating.  This horse definitely likes to run at or near the front and that is the expectation for this Saturday when she breaks from her gate representing the Empire State Racing residency.

7FOMORIAAUS3FfastnsaraJ Wilson6133%$22,7670.0015/1

This is a Bay Filly (HIGHLAND REEL x SILVANO (GER) x TANINO GIMLET) that broke her maiden two starts back on her fifth attempt which came on the dirt in Tasmania.  That was her first start on the dirt, and she ran very well in that race.  She would then be sent out for her most recent start on 04/19/2023 going 8 furlongs on the dirt in New South Wales.  She did not have her best effort in her first allowance race but did cross the wire in fourth with a lingering 88 speed rating.  She makes her return back to the turf this Saturday and the owner is looking for her to spark this time out in Queensland and show up with a big effort when she heads out at post time representing the Megalopolis Racing Circuit residency.

8SEVEN LUCKY STARSJPN3Ftexasace02T Small5280%$85,7315.137/1

Here we have a Bay Filly (EPIPHANEIA (JPN) x DYNAFORMER x NIJINSKY 2ND) who in five career starts has missed the boards only one time.  Two starts back she would get the win in Japan in an allowance race and then would be moved up in class to make her most recent start on 04/23/2023 going 10.5 in the Czech Republic in a Listed Stakes, Sister American Turf Filly Route.  She put up some fight in her first stakes appearance and crossed under the wire in second with a 90 speed rating.  The owner is looking to see continued improvement after that effort when he sends her out this weekend and over to her post draw representing the DelPenn National residency.

9HEY FRANKIEGB3FwispaA Smith9456%$115,1421.008/1

Coming out of the final post in this race will be this Bay Filly (FRANKEL (GB) x KINGMAMBO x KRIS S.) who has run very well for the owner in her two most recent starts.  Two starts back she would pick up a win here in Queensland going 7.5 furlongs in an allowance race.  She would then be sent out for her most recent start on 04/04/2023 in New South Wales going 9.5 furlongs in a $70200 Allowance.  She was fast out of the gate and by the third call was out in front by eleven and a half lengths.  She would hold her lead that started to dwindle in the stretch, but she got the win by almost three strides with a 95 speed rating.  There are other horses in this field that like to run on the lead out of the gate.  The owner needs to make sure she has something left in the tank for the final stretch when she comes out of the paddock at post time to the cheers of an excited crowd.

Good luck to all owners and horses!

Skippy’s Watch List

1-Teofimo:  She ties the top speed rating in the field. Can she improve on that?

2-Beyond Blue Sea: Might be a race for a closer.  Does she strike it big on Saturday?

5-Right And Lies: She proved herself a G1 contender.  Does she get the job done in Queensland?

Tarton’s Long Shot

6-Woette’s Buda:  The turf will be full of rabbits this Saturday in Queensland and this filly will be one of them.  She is going off at 8/1 in the morning line and she is coming off a Listed Stakes win in her most recent start with a gate to wire performance.  She needs to pace herself and not get into too big of duel with the other rabbits in this race.  If she reserves enough in the tank, she just might find a nice spot on the board.  Let’s give her a little support at the betting window this Saturday on some of our exotic tickets.
