Race # 2 of the Belgium Extravaganza here in honour of Oprah singer Rita Gorr as the the crowd and horses enter the paddock and racecourse with the sounds of Divinités du Styx” from Gluck’s opera “Alceste” over the speakers in the distance. 1. DOKO RACE 6 YR MARE Owner: averysyard odds: 8/1
THE GURKHA x DIAMOND GREEN x SEEKING THE GOLD
Hasn’t won in her last 8 starts and seems the SPD’s are showing father time is catching up. Will be looking to full fill the bucket list by getting in a Graded race and jockey A.Smith has the mount for this one.
2. IRISH HAACK 5 YR MARE Owner: puroguiso odds: 7/2
GALILEO (IRE) x DANSILI (GB) x GHOSTZAPPER
Started her career at turf with success then got switched over to dirt in her 3 yr old campaign with limited success. The past 10 months owner purguiso has brought her back over to the turf and has rattled off 4 wins in a row and the past 2 at 7f. This will be her first graded race and front leader style should be interesting to see if she can hold off some solid late charges in here.
3. TOO HOT BLUE 4 YR FILLY Owner: zeco13 odds: 18/1
AIR FORCE BLUE x STAY GOLD (JPN) x WILD AGAIN
Owner zeco has done well with this one since claiming her for 3000. Is 2 for 2 last two races at this distance and pulled a career 108 SPD. Primarily a ALW racer her whole life this is her first Graded race and Zeco has been working hard putting her through the paces getting her ready with a solid game plan.
4. TROPHY CEREMONY 5 YR MARE Owner: apindy001 odds: 5/1
UNCLE MO x MEDAGLIA D’ORO x DISTORTED HUMOR
This old girl has shortened up for this one after coming up 12th in her last time out in a Gr 2 race after a 3 month layoff so she should be fresh. I’m afraid her better days are behind her and will be in tough here. The public is throwing her support on the morning line at 5/1. I wish her best but don’t feel the same love even though the sprint should help after all those milers.
5. MHUVAADHOO 4 YR FILLY Owner: royalmark odds: 8/1
MUHAARAR x SEA THE STARS x DANZIG
Has never won at this distance or raced in a Graded race. But has run 7 Straight STKS races with a couple of wins at 6.5F. Won last time out charging at beating another that is in here today with a career best SPD 112. Should be coming off the pace and hopefully the stretch out isn’t too tiring.
6. KING OF GRASSY 4 YR FILLY Owner: xmonster odds: 5/1
KINGMAN x DANEHILL x LYPHARD
Win or nothing is the mantra for this filly of Kingman. 8 career wins and over a 1.2M in the bank she shortens up to this distance which she hasn’t ran in two years although did win those 2 races MSW and ALW. She seems to run better with results when sets the pace so owner Xmonster has decided which strategy to go with.
7. FIRE CAVE 4 YR FILLY Owner: Superscoobi odds: 6/1
SIYOUNI x AUSTRALIA x AWESOME AGAIN
Comes back in at this distance after a 3 race absence where she dominates at. 6 of 7 ITM 4 1st finishes at 7F. Has 2 graded races under her belt but yet to win and looks to be coming from behind the field and stalk the leaders here.
8. COVID CULIAO 5 YR MARE Owner: Asia odds: 9/2
MYBOYCHARLIE (IRE) x DUBAWI (IRE) x SHAMARDAL
A late bloomer that has won 3 of 7 the past year and all at this distance. She’s a late entry that looks to see her first Graded race and will be looking to come in off the pace and strike. I could see a ITM play here as this is her distance.
9. NEVER IN THE STARS 4 YR FILLY Owner: pirate odds: 7/1
NO NAY NEVER x SEA THE STARS x BERNARDINI
Won 3 times at this distance with 7 career wins 5 of 6 in sprints. Looks for a good rally here in her first Graded race and another that will be waiting in the weeds to pounce on the leaders. Out of the No Nay Never dam that has been a Graded winner’s machine lately.
