Stakes – Purse $100,000

Restricted to 3 Year Olds and Older Fillies and Mares NY Bred
9 furlongs on Dirt

On the eve of a New Year, 15 New York bred fillies and mares have traveled to Vermont for the CVBears Gotham City Distaff. The field will go nine furlongs on the dirt in search of the winner’s share of the $100,000 purse and bragging rights as New York’s finest in the Sim. The race features six three-year olds, four four-year olds, four five-year olds and one six-year old.

Here is a closer look at the field:

#1
toga perfect
basspatrol barn
l radzinski                           12/1

Out of the basspatrol barn is this four year old LAOBAN filly out of the Sim Mare JAJAJA. She has finished in the money in eleven of her sixteen career starts with five wins. She is making her fifth straight start at this distance with the most recent being a 100 speed third place result. She has enough speed to compete with this group and should be one to keep an eye on.

#2
lear energy
strictlysilver barn
c gerhke                               35/1

Out of the strictlysilver barn is this four year old scratch bred BELLAMY ROAD ( x LEAR FAN x RIVERMAN) filly. She was claimed in early January of 2022 and has finished in the money in six of her nine starts since. She is returning to the dirt for the first time since May and on just three weeks rest hopes that a change in surface and drop in distance will bring success in her final race of the year.

#3
trinnihand
elida barn
m mason                            16/1

Out of the elida barn is this five year old TRINNIBERG mare out of the Sim Mare DIXIELAND DEPUTY. She is making just her fifth start of 2022 and she is looking to improve on a best fifth place finish. Her last win came at this distance when she ran 105 speed back in October 2021. Since then she has competed at shorter distances and has not been successful. Ownership hopes that a long rest and the added distance will help her get back on track.

#4
lea indy
danzingmoon9 barn
l cyr                                        27/1

Out of the danzingmoon9 barn is this four year old LEOFRIC filly out of the Sim Mare CATALINA DE ARAGON. Three of her five starts this year have come on the turf and last time out she had a 90 speed win over a ten and a half furlong track in New York. Her last dirt start came back in June and she finished sixth at a mile. She comes in well rested but I don’t think she will be a factor here against this competitive group of fifteen.

#5
tipsy tenant
db2 barn
j ingram                              7/2

Out of the db2 barn is this five year old THE LIEUTENANT mare out of the Sim Mare DEFONCE. She won this race last year and comes back in defense of her title. She has had an up and down year since that race and tuned up with a runner-up finish over nine and a half furlongs four weeks ago. She goes off as the second choice of the handicapper but I think she will really have to battle to find a spot on the board here.

#6
khalana
wnrscircle barn
b ryan                                   5/2

Out of the wnrscircle barn is this six year old AL KHALI mare out of the Sim Mare ARCHANA. She began her year in June with back to back wins with the second coming at the ten furlong “Never Sleeps” where she blazed 113 speed. She followed that up with a runner-up at the “Lakehouse Dirt Mare Route” and a third at the G1 “Great Dame” when she ran 109 speed at this same distance. She goes off as the deserving favorite and may be tough to beat.

#7
on my side
bigstate04 barn
l skydog                               39/1

Out of the bigstate04 barn is this four year old scratch bred MARSH SIDE (x VADAMOS x MANILA) filly. She has raced much of her career on turf but has finished in the money in five of her eight career dirt starts. She went sixteen furlongs in her last start and finished third with a 76 speed rating. Three back she went this same distance on the dirt and ran 104 speed in another third place finish. She is probably best suited for longer distances and will probably not factor into this race.

#8
incrhysed karma
lgyetanother7 barn
z ayya                                    13/1

Out of the lgyetanother7 barn is this three year old FROST GIANT filly out of the Sim Mare KARMA CADET. She has an impressive eight wins in eighteen career starts with seven of those wins coming this year. Her only race of the year where she finished worse than second was a fourth place finish at the “ESR Large Marge Stakes” where she ran 98 speed at this distance and was beaten by more than seven lengths by TATIANNA. She has only topped 100+ speed once and will need to be well above if she hopes to get the win.

#9
mob assassin cd
vegasmafia barn
d findley jr                          24/1

Out of the vegasmafia barn is this three year old SOLOMINI filly out of the Sim Mare TWO DOZEN ROSES. She has finished in the money in all but one of her ten career starts and comes in hot with back to back wins at a mile distance. Her last start came just five weeks ago and she had a breakout with 105 speed in a five horse field. She will face the biggest field of her career here and the most competitive but she will not be overmatched and might be a nice long shot pick.

#10
mob assassin ix
cosanostra barn
t ace                                      9/1

Out of the cosanostra barn is this three year old WAR DANCER filly out of the Sim Mare TEXAS PRIDE. She has competed exclusively at Stakes and Graded Stakes races this year and has won more than $600,000 in earnings. She started the year with a win at the “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” where she ran 103 speed at this same distance. In her next start she took home the G1 “Key Lime” and followed that up with a third place finish at the “Bluegrass Oaks”. A win at the “New York Oaks” was sandwiched between two duds at G1 races and a fourteenth place finish at the G2 “Hunted By Lions”. Despite her resume she does not go off as the favorite here but she will definitely be a factor.

#11
tattianna
bigdog barn
i thomas                              22/1

Out of the bigdog barn is this three year old scratch bred SOLOMINI ( x DYNAFORMER x DEEP IMPACT) filly. She started her career with six straight starts on the turf that was highlighted by a win at the “ESR Lady Liberty Stakes”. Her first start on the dirt came at the “ESR Large Marge Stakes” where she impressed with 107 speed and won by more than two lengths. Unfortunately she followed that up with an eleventh place finish at the “ESR Speed Again Dirt Filly Route”. She comes in well rested and if she can replicate the 105 speed race she should be in the mix here.

#12
dini ban
nativeriver barn
m cameron                         96/1

Out of the nativeriver barn is this three year old LAOBAN filly out of the Sim Mare SEEKING DINI. She was picked up at a claimer last January and in six starts for new ownership she has won twice and had three runner-up finishes. Her last start was a spooky win on Halloween when she ran 50 speed over a nine and a half furlong track here in Vermont. The odds maker is not giving her much love and she probably won’t finish in the money but I think she will run 100+ speed for the first time and won’t be embarrassed here.

#13
keens
jms10 barn
f oxon                                                  9/1

Out of the jms10 barn is this five year old MAKE RESERVATIONS mare out of the Sim Mare MY DERBY COMP. She has finished in the money in sixteen of here twenty-three career starts including six wins. She will run nine furlongs for the first time here but she has had lots of success at eight and a half furlongs so she should like the distance and she has enough speed to compete with this field.

#14
central merger
sremel43 barn
l ahrens                                                29/1

Out of the sremel43 barn is this three year old CENTRAL BANKER filly out of the Sim Mare UNUSUAL MERGER. She comes in hot with four straight wins with the most recent coming at the “Her Mats Dirt Filly Route” where she came from the back of the pack and ran 108 speed and won by less than a length. She comes in well rested and should get some interest at the betting windows for those looking for a hot horse that may be able to find a spot on the board.

#15
majestic gold cat
uptownlowdown barn
m scott                                 6/1

Out of the uptownlowdown barn is this five year old MAJESTIC CITY mare out of the Sim Mare THE GOLDEN CAT. Our second most experienced entry makes her twenty-fourth career start here and tenth start this year. She is stretching things out to nine furlongs here for the first time since last January as most of her races of late have been at six to seven furlongs and she has had some success at those distances. Posted career best 109 speed last February and has had five other 100+ speed starts since then. She should handle the distance and might surprise out of the fifteen hole.
