Several Stakes Winners finding New Homes

Auction 3581 – Just so everyone is forewarned this will be my next to last article until next fall.  Things get busy here on my little Arizona farm.  I have already picked up one mare and foal and have two others to get, then there will be foals to work with, boarders arriving and the races start here Memorial Day weekend.  The BTB takes its summer break right after the third Jewel so I am merely starting mine a bit early and staying gone a bit longer.  But, I did write all through the holidays so it is deserved, I think.

This week we had eight horses sell for a million dollars or more, including one 8 YO.  The auction continues to mimic a roller coaster and every week it seems that what was up last is down this.  There were about 100 more horses consigned this week but that carried through as about a 100 more sold for more than a dollar this week than last.  As the Vermont Old Man Of The Mountain series gets more popular, so do the old geezers going through the sales ring.  This week 30 of the horses 8 & up went for over a dollar and the one, French Consul sold for over a million.  The stakes winning bay mare is by Polish Patriot out of a Feu D’Enfer mare and was consigned by Sigone2.  Fallridge signed the ticket for a cool $1,000,001.   For a full report, the 3581 Auction Stats are next.

The Millionaires:  Although only eight horses sold for a million or more, they were a nice group and as usual, I have highlighted the top five that I believe are not stable transfers.

Showing the way this week was Fatattack’s Seven Come Eleven, #122143, a cute 4YO chestnut filly by Ghostzapper out of a Fappiano mare.  She was a stakes winner three back taking The Salubrious Stakes and shortly before that a restricted DPCD stake.  Sdmf liked what he saw in this 10 time winner and signed the ticket for $5,499,999.

Hip number 63288 Check The Rhyme came into the ring acting a bit untrained and promptly reared and jerked away from her handler.  Consigned by Rihanna the 3 YO bay filly still sold for $2,755,554.  By Montjeu out of the stakes winning mare Vitae (Theatrical) she has raced one time finishing a closing fifth over 11 furlongs.  Crazyjoe (Lenny) has a fondness for those crazy types, came up with the winning bid and led her away.

Chloedawg2 led in Beck And Call # 3247, a handsome red colt by Brahms out of a Pentelicus mare.  The 3 YO has won four of his 12 races including a stakes six back, The Lightning Bert.  Sunairfarm, a division of Flstables (Alex) was the buyer, paying $2,045,001.00 and I am so glad to see him active again.

Passing through the sale’s ring for the second time in eight months was Original Gangsta # 119012, a 4 YO chestnut colt by Distorted Humor out of a Pleasant Coloney mare.  Fairhaven5 consigned the colt and Hilary7170 paid $1,789,900 for the privilege of owing his papers.  He has three wins from 22 starts and none of them occurred while he was owned by Fairhaven who can usually work wonders.  Hilary7170 thinks the colt can be turned around and is willing to put the time in to do it.

Crazyjoe had to consign Twice The Rock # 92125 to keep money in his bank account after spending so much to acquire Check The Rhyme.  A big brown colt by Rock Hard Ten out of the stakes winning mare Rockefeller (Rock Of Gibraltar), Twice The Rock has won one race from nine starts.  Ghosty paid $1,031,009 for this high dollar claimer and hopes he will get better with age and seasoning.

Auction Seen: I must confess that I will miss the rain here in Kentucky.  I think it has rained every weekend except for maybe two and although it often clears up in the afternoon, I am long gone by then.  It was a miserable flight – no food, no movie, no nothing – but I got here and found a cab that got me to the sales barn in one piece.  I walked in with Bung who is running a series of maiden races in Vermont.  Peri and Mrv were right behind us and I would have stayed and visited with them but I spied an old friend, Patwilliam, and decided to get him a beer while we caught up on old times.  Bouncer finally came and got me and asked if I would take Chugalug back to his table on my way to mine. I was immediately accosted by Burst who wanted to point out Bluegum stuck down by the ring.   Chilcoat came by and we had a good laugh at a hopping mad Crazyfrog gesturing wildly at Dolittle and Pipelayer.  Seems they had left that goofy Tbs counting cans at his reserved table and he wanted them to come and take him away.  For those that don’t know, Tbs spends the better part of the morning picking up cans so he can afford to gamble all afternoon.

Seiren was sitting with Drumms on my left and the Baileyboys were seated to my right with Lilfrenchy and Mollydoer.  They better take care as it doesn’t take much to get Widowmaker joining the party.  Winnette was down by the rail as were Hoseshoe, minus his ‘r’, both Under and Touchwood and Elizondo.  Wheels was active and Nosewin wandered by with Tsunami and Ensoul on their way to check out some of the horses being offered for sale.  All in all, the place was jumping and it is always fun to take in the sights, giving a shout out to everyone I know and even some I don’t but would like to.

The Stc:  The Stc group purchased eight horses ranging from one dollar to the almost $13,000 paid for a 3 YO bay colt by Deep Impact out of Lovely Shack by Giant’s Causeway.  Number 154944 Deep Halo, is still a maiden after six starts but hopefully will graduate soon.  Dazzler sold the nice looking colt to Stcvbear.  Leading buyers of the group were the aforementioned Stcvbear and Stcselur who bought two horses apiece.  The total in sales for the Stc group was $43,961.00 and the average was $5,495.13.

That’s it for this week.   Good Luck with all your auction purchases.
