Red Theatre Paints the Town Red.
This week we travel down under to Victoria Park to take in the SURREPTITIOUS Stakes. The race is named for Surreptitious who won 8 of 40 races and enjoyed the turf. This mile and five eighth turf Stakes for 3 year olds and over fillies and mares will be run on the turf course. This $95,000 stakes has a small field but could be interesting, Lets take a look:
#1 ZZ ZZAR trained by holyghost – 9/5 ml. This 4 yr old beautiful dark grey colt is a Zalazl out of Monmouth Czar offspring that has won close to $350 thousand. In his 26 races he has an amazing 11wins, four of which were stakes wins. He has really been hitting his stride this year with 7 of the past 10 finishing either first or second. With triple figure speeds and D Evans up in the stirrups, this is a horse to be reckoned with.
#2 KING OF KILMORE(AUS) trained by deyoto3 – 10/1 ml. The only Aussie bred is a three year old Lohnro colt that has only run 7 times but keeps on improving. He had his personal best (96) in a stakes race last out and came in with a third. He seems to find a way to hit the board and has had some big time finishes down the stretch. He will really have to kick it up a notch to hit the board here.
#3 RED THEATRE(IRE) trained by phillipj– 3/5 ml. This Montjeu 4 yr old colt out of broodmare Madyson’s Hi has impressively had nine top two finishes in only 14 races. He has really been flying lately, with 4 triple figure speed figures over 105 in his past four races. Stepping down from a 4th in a Grade One last out, he looks to be the class of the field here. He is stretching it out a bit but sure looks like he can carry the extra distance.
#4 WATER WITCH trained by dreaming – 3/1 ml. The greybeard of the bunch is this five year old Salers Wells horse that seems to love this distance. He is still looking for his first stakes win but is extremely consistent and will be there if the leaders stumble a bit down the stretch. Never count the old guy out when there is some inexperience in the race.
WATER WITCH has been running well lately but I’m afraid there is too much horsepower here to get him to the top. He finishes third behind ZZ ZZAR in second and RED THEATRE will fly by them all in the stretch with his patented big kick to grab the winners circle.
Good luck to all runners!
