Fillies and mares, 4 years old and up
Only five 4 fillies have turned up for this 12 furlong route on the turf course this week which includes a couple of pretty short priced favourites. The runners are:
ALPINE WINGS(IRE)
Trainer: foxon4
(Azamour (IRE) x In The Wings(GB) x Rhythm)
Odds: 9/5 Earnings: 229,384 Runs/Wins: 18/8
A 4yo scratch bred filly from Foxon Stables bred by paschal. Won her first stakes entry in her final race of 2007 but hasn’t really managed to build on that success this year. This is her first return to 12 furlongs since that win so we can perhaps expect to see some improvement in a short handed race that she will be looking to dominate from the very start.
EMBLEM OF PEACE(JPN)
Trainer: quiggy1
(War Emblem x Topsider x Law Society (IRE))
Odds: 5/1 Earnings: 88,977 Runs/Wins: 16/4
A 4yo scratch bred filly from Quiggy1 Stables bred by simsters5. Another filly who as yet hasn’t really improved this year and gets her first run over 9 furlongs in an effort to rectify that situation. On current form she could be found wanting and may fail to put in much of an appearance.
Trainer: deajai3
(Red Bullet x Miswaki x
Odds: 8/5 Earnings: 171,923 Runs/Wins: 21/6
A 4yo filly from Deajai Stables bred from a G class mare. Despite being the short priced favourite here there are still some question marks over her ability to get this distance. She has won over 10 furlongs but failed over 14 furlongs so this race being right in the middle is a big gamble. Personally I feel that she may struggle despite being in reasonable form.
ROLL A FAT ONE(IRE)
Trainer: curlypuub
(Doyen (IRE) x Mill Reef x Nureyev)
Odds: 5/2 Earnings: 158,291 Runs/Wins: 16/4
A 4yo scratch bred filly from Strongone Stables. She has been running well this year but has still yet to win a stakes race. Last time she ran this distance she easily won an allowance here at Longchamp, so a top two place looks a pretty good bet from here.
ZYRAH(KY)
Trainer: lblong2
(Rahy x Fusaichi Pegasus x Sadler’s Wells)
Odds: 11/1 Earnings: 175,439 Runs/Wins: 26/8
A 4yo filly from Lgbost Stables bred from an F class mare by zyro. Won her first stakes race as a 2yo, but that didn’t stop her trainer dropping her down to claimers as a 3yo. Her new owners eventually got her for just $10k and promptly hit the starter allowance trail where she managed 3 wins. She still hasn’t really done too much in normal allowances or stakes races, and her current form isn’t too promising for this race,
Summary
Another small field which I feel is custom made for Alpine Wings(IRE) to dominate and take the win.
