Only Five Fillies in The TRIPLE CROWN HOPES Stakes

The TRIPLE CROWN HOPES Stakes

One mile

Firm Turf

$75,000

Fillies and mares, 3 years old

Only 5 runners have entered this valuable stakes race but they are all class runners. The Triple Crown may seem a long way off for these 3yo’s but the winner of this race will certainly have earned their shot at the top.  Joint favourites lead the betting and the full field is:

Storm Street(KY)

Trainer: greyghost

(Tropical Storm x Street Cry (IRE) x A.P. Indy)

Odds: 7/1                    Earnings: 80,390                    Runs/Wins: 11/2

A 3yo from Fortune500 based on a G class horse.  She’s was persistent as a 2yo without managing to shrug off her maiden tag and it was only in her second run as a 3yo that she finally achieved this.  She promptly followed it up with an excellent allowance win last time, so she is bang on form for this one.  Her only disappointing run so far was in a G2 early on, and with her improved closing late in the race she should be right up there.

Thunderslips(ENG)

Trainer: lenny5

(Rainbow Quest x Point Given x Ajdal)

Odds: 8/5                    Earnings: 269,020                  Runs/Wins: 7/5

A 3yo from The Evil Empire bred from an E class mare.  A filly with real potential, her only losses coming in G1 races, and she was unlucky to come 2nd in the G1-The LOADED CHARGER Special last time when she looked set to land the spoils. She has by far the best figures on turf of the field, but numbers can sometimes be misleading this early in the year.

Rant And Rave(ENG)

Trainer: super27

(Pivotal(GB) x Machiavellian x Mr. Prospector)

Odds: 9/2                    Earnings: 84,595                    Runs/Wins: 7/3

A scratchbred 3yo from More Evil Than The Evil Empire! She was bang in form when winning her first stakes race but has found it tough going since for some inexplicable reason.  You would expect her to find some improvement now she is 3, something that didn’t happen last time out, so look for her to take the early lead if she can.

.

Woomera(AUS)

Trainer: stickup

(Arazi x Deputy Minister x A.P. Indy)

Odds: 8/5                    Earnings: 81,105                    Runs/Wins: 7/2

A 3yo from Coldwater Farm bred from an F class mare.  Though she won her maiden on turf she has looked pretty handy on dirt in her races since and whilst she has never been out of the top three this is her first non-restricted stakes entry.  If this was on dirt you would have to fancy her for the win here but on turf she may just lack the final pace she needs.

Nyssa(NY)

Trainer: iolokus

(Bright Beau x Red Ransom x Relaunch)

Odds: 9/2                    Earnings: 140,915                  Runs/Wins: 8/3

A 3yo from Iolokus Stables bred from a G class mare.  She’s looked pretty good on both dirt and turf and has 2 stakes victories to her name already.   Hasn’t been too successful in her 2 races this year so is due a big run soon I reckon.  She’ll be vying for the early lead and if she gets it she will win.

Summary

Sadly only one of these fillies will be successful here but at least they will all earn some money. On bare form Thunderslips(ENG) looks to have this race in the bag, but as we’ve all learnt for ourselves, nothing is ever guaranteed and this is a talented, if compact, field. With a couple of known front-runners and some late running fillies we can look forward to a thrilling finish.
