Claim to fame for this 8yo sired by Mt. Livermore came way back in ’05.  During a hot streak he smoked a field of eight in the Copenhagen Cup G2 mile.  After that race he when into a dry spell that lasted for a year.  Then he picked up three wins in four allowance races and then some minor checks now and then until present.  He’s in fairly good shape if one throws out his last disaster on grass.  Horse will be competing in the 8yo+ division of this race.  He has a chance for a check.

This 8yo by Seeking the Gold out of a “C” rated he/mare should clean up in this field.  He’s coming off two solid wins and has three G1’s and numerous graded wins in his resume’.  It’s funny that he won’t get the top credits that will be given out in this event because he’s just too good. J  One would have to believe that even if the trainer were to set jockey instructions to have him “workout”, he’d still win.  The way the race is set up, there are more credit $$ for 2nd, 3rd, and last, then to the winner.  However, a win is a win and the hat-trick is cool.

Kudo’s to trainer for buying this race.  After going on hiatus for two years from the sim, trainer comes back with new energy and decides to honor this graded winner with a race of his own before retirement.  Least likely to succeed in this field is of no importance.  There is a credit prize for last place and that will be satisfactory.  Way back in ’01 when this horse was a babe, he tackled a 17 horse field in the G1 DelPenn Juvy and crushed them with a gate to wire victory.  That was the highlight of his career.  Many trainers have their favorite horses and bear with their quirks through the years.  Never giving up on them no matter how they race….  Like an old friend…we enjoy their company.  Then one day they’re gone.  They leave us, but the memories remain.  To some, this race may seem foolish; but to those that have hearts that “feel” for the days that were, this is a memorial to a friend that went through the highs and lows of the sim together.  As good friends should.

This horse will be competing in the 7yo division.  Sired by Danzig out of a “B” rated mare, his credentials consist of winning the G1 Globalsim Special in ’05.  He is lightly raced for being a 7yo with only 39 starts.  He has eleven wins which came mostly as a 3-4yo.  Since then he has been competitive in allowance races but hasn’t been able to show the once brilliant speed that adorned his earlier career.  With so few races under his belt, he is another that is hard to let go of.  Maybe, just maybe, this is the week that it all comes together.  Since he is competing against the other 7yos in this race, hope runs eternal.

What you see, is what you get, with this 8yo.  In the last two years this horse’s SP’s have been rock solid.  He’s an allowance horse now, but has a chance in every race entered.  He qualified by winning the Mohammed Ali Stakes in ’05.  A winner on both turf and dirt, he is scratch bred to Seattle Slew.  Off recent form he has a decent shot for second in his division in this.

One has to reflect back to the past at the sires of these old-timers.  So many have either been pensioned or gone on to the racetrack in the sky.  This 7yo has proved to be an excellent auction buy in ’05.  Six wins in ten starts after the purchase!  One of them being the graded Bluegrass Cup Classic.  Along with other graded placings and listed stakes wins.  ’07 wasn’t as good with the exception of a listed stakes as it appears W&T is showing its face.   However, no one is thinking this is the end of the story.  This horse still has plenty to offer albeit at a different level.  Last two outs have been disappointments, but he should run well here against his age group.

When was the last time anyone saw Irish River as a sire? J  This 9yo just finished a close up 3rd in the Old Man and the Mountains series.  There was a ton of history in that race, and a lot of old friends for sure!  Mostly a turf racer, he qualifies for this with his win in the Sydney Quineas back in ’02.  At that time he was owned by Zgreat who left us for selling livestock (I believe) in another simulated game.  Since then he has had a fantastic record of wins by present owner.  Preferring longer and grass may or may not deter him in this.  He has taken to dirt before, has stalking ability, and a decent late kick.

Multiple graded winner…this 8yo still has fire in his veins after 64 starts!!  Woodman scratch bred that has wins on turf and dirt.  Probably would be better suited if this was a tad shorter as he is certainly a powerful sprinter.  Hard to tell what he will do here.  He is 0 for 7 in routes, so that doesn’t bode well.  However, this race rewards 2nd and 3rd place with more credits per division, so he may be a big winner.  Ain’t that a kick?

Wins 1st time out of the gate as a 2yo, goes on to complete conditions, and then two G1 victories as a 5yo.  Multiple wins as a 5yo brought much joy to a trainer that loves her horses.  51 starts and still kicking; this horse has most of his wins in sprints.  Got a win last year against his age in a mile, so this is still up his alley.  He’s been a bit lazy as of late, but this old-timers race should perk him up.

This 7yo appears to be the winner of his division.  A multiple graded winner and still producing 100SP’s; this speedball just may take down the whole thing.  Interestingly, he hasn’t run in an allowance race since March of ’05.  Out of 39 straight races in stakes events, he only has 5 sub par 100SP’s!!  Now this is a horse made of iron.  He looks to have the pace to himself even breaking from the outside post.

What we have here is a very different kind of event.  The winners will receive less of a credit prize than those that finish 2nd or 3rd in their divisions unless there are three or more runners in their division.  Even the last place finisher will receive 200 credits if it isn’t the sponsor’s horse.  Now since there are more than 3 runners in each age group, the winners will receive an extra 200 credits for the win. Got that?  Maybe a little confusing, but interesting none the less.  You can read the BTB article here: http://blacktypebugler.com/default.asp?artid=5551 One thing is for sure…these trainers deserve credit for giving these old timers a chance to race this long.
