Paltics Colt Sprints for The Automobile

Despite expectations of an off track for this 3yo 6 furlong turf race the weather gods have been kind to us this weekend.  Possibly the threat of heavy going put off some potential entries so we have just 7 colts contesting the $65,000 that are up for grabs.

8/5 – Paltics Colt BG(KY)
5/2 – Razormaw(KY)
7/2 – Aesculapius(KY)
6/1 – Hot and Ready(DEN)
8/1 – Yungaburra(AUS)
12/1 – Grimmauld Place(KY)
14/1 – Enteedee(KY)

8/5 – Paltics Colt BG(KY) – #5
Trainer: honeyj
(Forestry x Deposit Ticket x Palace Music)
An impressive looking 2yo the favorite has only lost one of his turf starts so far – a race many believe he should have won. With 4 Stakes wins already under his belt this could be a future star and victory here would surely see him looking for a Graded race before too long.

5/2 – Razormaw(KY) – #3
Trainer: claim
(Speightstown x Wild Again x Danehill)
This guy is quite lightly raced with just 3 starts and 1 win to his name so far. Possibly too early to say for sure whether he will train on as a 3yo but I am sure he will run well in this his first Stakes start.  One for the future maybe.

7/2 – Aesculapius(KY) – #6
Trainer: kristof
(North Light (Ire) x Kingmambo x Deputy Minister)
With only 1 win from his 6 starts this colt seems to have a serious case of seconditis. Some potential here but it remains to be seen whether his jockey will be able to kick him to the front when it matters.

6/1 – Hot and Ready(DEN) – #1
Trainer: bardo
(Hot Run(DEN) x More Than Ready x Vice Regent)
This colt has already run 3 times and it’s a pity that his trainer didn’t switch him to dirt a bit sooner, because on turf he looks more than capable. Just 2 victories so far, though one of those was a stakes race, he’ll be looking to contest this in the early stages but I’m not convinced he will have the legs in this company.

8/1 – Yungaburra(AUS) – #7
Trainer: pekayz
(Flying Spur(Aus) x Zabeel(NZ) x Soviet Star)
Another colt lightly raced as a 2yo makes his step up to the Stakes ranks.  He’s likely to take the lead early on and will be the one to catch in the later stages.  His trainer will be hoping that he wont just set up the win for his rivals.

12/1 – Grimmauld Place(KY) – #2
Trainer: angelfire
(Mizzen Mast x Lil’s Boy x Gold Crest)
With 4 of his 6 starts being on either dirt or off tracksit’s been hard to guage how this colt will perform as a 3yo.  Personally I believe he will be a more than competent runner of allowances but may struggle with this step up to Stakes races.

14/1 – Enteedee(KY) – #4
Trainer: bmr004
(Mingun x Atticus x Storm Cat)
The outsider of the field hasn’t really looked in the same class as the others so far.  He will need a very big performance to feature here – but, hey. stranger things have happened.

Summary:

It’s hard to look beyond the favorite in this one and it should be an interesting. Most of the runners seem to be happier with early pace so the winner of that little battle could turn this whole thing around.

Good luck to all horses, runners and riders at Longchamp this week.
