1 | 10/1 | 4yo scratch bred by an obscure sire from
2 | YOGI | 10/1 |
Out of a “G” rated mare, this 4yo is going into his 42nd race and has provided his owner with a nice bankroll. Mostly allowance wins with a stakes thrown in. Colt will be turning five shortly and creeping up on the W&T, so now’s the time. However, as Yogi once said, “99% of the birdie putts that come up short, usually don’t go in”. J
3 | FREEDOM’S FIGHT(AUS) | 17/1 |
3yo colt out of an “F” rated mare that has a nice 2yo progeny also. FF is going against older for the 1st time in this, and has some decent races at the distance. Didn’t like the off track in last although has won on an off track before. Still eligible for NW4L leaves some concern; as well as not having a win in six months. Needs to step up or go back to qualifying school.
4 | DARK PRINCES | 12/1 |
Well bred scratch by Empire Maker. Bank rolled most of the 750k as a 2yo in owner restricted/allowance races. 8 to 9 furlongs is his forte’ to date. Stretching out to 12 and beyond could prove beneficial. Must’ve thrown a shoe in last as he never got a mention. Let’s call that a fluke and see if he can regain his previous form. Jock is also a concern, as he has just been released from rehab.
5 | MY SECRET DELTA(KY) | 19/1 |
3yo upstart scratch bred by Kingmambo. Colt’s second try against older. Comes from way off the pace, and recently has passed tiring horses for place checks. So far a decent allowance horse that can only get better with age. How he’ll fair in this remains to be seen. Should be coming late along with a crowd.
6 | IRONSIDE(KY) | 12/1 |
3yo speedy colt out of a “G” rated mare. Colt has one stakes win at the distance, and has picked up minor checks in graded company. Last three outs have not had the SP’s to threaten here. Jock Wimpy has had an off year so far because of McDonald specials. Trainer is dreadfully aware of the “Wimp’s” 15lb. overweight status, but Wimpy’s agent bribed him with two free rides. Colt will try for the lead, but extra weight may cause demise in the turn for home.
7 | IRISH QUEST | 7/1 |
6yo scratch bred horse sired by distance sire Rainbow Quest. I.Q. has won 33% of his starts and poses a big threat here. Horse has shown his versatility on both surfaces, but has better SP’s on dirt. Loves this distance and has won a G2 a few races back. Last out was longer than he could handle…now back to what he really is good at. We would have to question his condition at this time because of age, but he is lightly raced. If up to it, he will stay close with a bold move in the stretch. Jock may screw it up if he doesn’t rate properly.
8 | TULL’S TIGER( | 17/1 |
5yo out of a “B” rated mare with “not so classy” bloodlines. After T.T.’s birth she has produced zilch. T.T. is a former claimer that blossomed into a nice allowance runner for his third owner. A sprinter most of his career, new owner has found his preferred distance is routing. Nice claim and good placing. In tough here but should be flying out of the gate. Mare’s breeding may be the drawback in this.
9 | SAFETY ZONE | 5/1 |
4yo out of an “A” rated he/she mare. Twelve W’s out of 30 starts is nothing to sneeze at and CPU gives him the nod. Horse has been an also ran in last two starts, but should be rounding into previous form. Won a G3 six back at the distance with a 116SP. Expectations run high in this with top jock in the irons. Tough post to break cleanly with a speed horse on his outside…may get scrunched. However, if he comes back to previous form and runs his race, he will be the “one to beat”.
10 | SOCKEYE(KY) | 10/1 |
Nice looking 3yo out of an “F” rated mare that hasn’t produced according to her royal blood. This colt has a chance to change that with the improvement he’s showing. Trainer showed patience by running colt through his conditions. Now he should be ready for prime time. Won his last two outs at the distance and easily. He will now test his breeding against older. Whether or not he can survive the speed duel this event sets up; he should be a threat for years to come. Can only get better with age.
11 | POSTING(AUS) | 10/1 |
5yo horse out of an “F” rated mare. Australian bred that started his career on turf as breeding suggests. Has been claimed and auction bought before being raced solely on dirt. Hasn’t fared well in listed stakes and at his best in 9f races, leaves him as an underlay in this. Trainer has made progress with this former claimer, but may be asking too much.
12 | SPENT A | 10/1 |
Out of a “G” rated mare with “top of the line” blood, this 5yo appears to be in over his head. A very nice 8-9f allowance horse that makes the most of his talent. If this was an off track there would be more to write, however, it’s not. Mitchell has been in a slump for quite a while, and that doesn’t help.
13 | CORA | 12/1 |
Former claimer turned stakes winner. This 4yo filly scratch bred by El Corredor, has done well against the boys albeit in claimers. She’s now trying to do what the majority of females have tried and failed. Hard to fault the trainer for trying as she has simply exploded in her last two events. Her last race was against her own sex, but she handled them convincingly. Jock Parks is so-so, but she normally gets a these types on her back. We’ll wish her the best in this.
14 | SPECIMEN X | 6/1 |
Padrebri entry that excites the salivary glands. 4yo scratch bred colt by FuPeg. As to whether we’ll be excited after the race is up for grabs. Only 14 races for this colt with many avenues to explore. The peeps stables usually figure out the surface and distance of their horses. The CPU thinks highly of this entry, but we’ll see what this colt thinks of himself this Saturday. Jockey is cool and should get the most of what this guy’s got.
This should be a great race…so…I won’t spoil it by trying to pick the winner, as the picks lately have been horrible.
