Mud Wrestler wins at West Virgina Track
The RARE PROJECT(GB) Stakes
A mile and five sixteenths on the Good Dirt Track
$40,000
All horses, 3 years old
As predicted in my preview, the off track ruled the day and our champion mud wrestler at the RARE PROJECT STAKES here in Wild and Wonderful West Virginia ended up being THREE KIDS who won his third race in three tries on off tracks. He looked strong throughout the race with a wire to wire win pulling away quite easily in the stretch.
The big brown colt by UNACOUNTED FOR picked up his very first Stakes victory for trainer SnowAngel2 and the Golden Gale Stables. He has two wins in a row now, both on the sloppy stuff. He also seems to have found his niche with the mile and quarter distance.
Jockey Bowman was able to push THREE KIDS to the front right at the start followed closely by HARLEM AIRSHAFT who followed him the entire way and finished second. MY SECRET DELTA was able to close at the end and sneak into third but was still over six lengths back of the winner.
The race was not without it’s controversy as trainer Hidden had complained about the lack of a Stakes race this weekend in Minnesota and how he had to bring MINNESOTA PRAYER all the way to West Virginia for a Stakes race. It appears that he shouldn’t have bothered as his horse floundered badly and was closer to the back than the front. This will certainly add fuel to the Minnesota Downs Residency fire about the lack of a Stake race at home.
Good luck to all runners!
