GIII Buckeye Debutante – 9/1/19

Welcome to a sunny, Sunday here in the big OH……I.O,  lol. The weather is beautiful and we have graded action on the card for the first day of a new month. What could be better? Six trainers are on hand trying to get a piece of this G3 event, and that nice sticker next to their name when the breeding barn comes calling in a few years. Entrants from all around the world have shown interest in this dazzling event for 2yr old fillies. One trainer in particular, has entered 5 of the 10 gals that will come through the starting gate. Let’s take a deeper look at the field…

September 1st, 2019

$150,000 GIII Buckeye Debutante (Post Time 2:00pm EST)

2yr Olds, Fillies

6 Furlongs – Fast Dirt

Saddle Number 1 WHATA SPORT (34-1)

Trained by Lightng99 Racing Stables (Representing the Empire State Racing Residency)

(Sports Edition x (Steam Brush) Dance In The Dark x Dubai Destination)

Comes in off of a single start, over in PA, versus allowance company on the turf. She pressured the pace early that day before fading in the later stages to finish 3 lengths back of the winner in a four horse race. Faces much tougher company here, so I can’t support her chances for an upset. Trainer is giving this one a chance due to the smaller field for a graded race. Extra distance will help, but is better suited for maidens at this point.

Saddle Number 2 DUZ PASS YOU (13-1)

Trained by Lightng99 Racing Stables (Representing the Empire State Racing Residency)

(Vadamos x (Duz Not Lose) Raven’s Pass x Speightstown)

The second entrant from the Lightng99 barn has shown a little more flash than her stablemate to her inside. Took 4 runs to brake her maiden, showing some decent late kick in those starts while running mid-pack. Has had multiple races versus stakes company already in her career. Last out in the Nonstop Flight Turf Juvy, she lost a little of her form and backed up a bit in the final stages cancelling out her increased SP’s in each race. First start on the dirt, has some dirt pedigree!

Saddle Number 3 LUCKY LUTE (5-1)

Trained by Courtbo16 Racing Stables (Representing the Universal Racing Club Residency)

(Midnight Lute x (Outsidein) Kris S. x Fappiano)

This nice looking filly comes over from KY, where she has been racing/training in her three career races. In the money in all three, but it was race number 2, where she showed her only victory to date, rallying to the front at the ¾ pole to win by 1 ¼ lengths. Attempted to stretch out a little farther in most recent but was not able to mount any late kick to challenge winner. Dam has produced stakes winners on dirt and turf so there’s no reason this gal won’t improve as she goes. Cuts back and should be close.

Saddle Number4 QUICK ATTAK (4-1)

Trained by Nhmt6446 Racing Stables

(Quick Change x (Direct Attack) War Front x Dixieland Band)

This local area bred is the most accomplished of the bunch. Reeled off four consecutive wins to start her campaign. Won the Baby Capote Dirt Juvenile stakes three back, rallying from the 13thposition of 14 horses to contest that race. Took to graded company following that start in the G3 Lean Machine Stakes. She showed some of her late foot capabilities in that one but failed to catch the winner placing 3rd. Just missed last out in an open allowance in KY. Late turn of foot sets her up well in here!

Saddle Number 5 IRON MASTERS (15-1)

Trained by Lightng99 Racing Stables (Representing the Empire State Racing Residency)

(Quasillo x (Iron Danzig) Mr. Greeley x Danzig Connection)

The second maiden eligible runner in here is the third entrant from the Lightng99 barn. Comes to the US for the first time with her previous runs all being versus local breeds in SAF. She’s been competitive in each of her 5 races to date, finishing no more than one length behind the winner in her 4 maiden races. Has a lone allowance attempt where she finished third, beaten three lengths. If she’s on, she’ll contest the early pace and try to hold on late.

Saddle Number 6 ZAP THE LORDS (5-1)

Trained by Ace Racing Stables (Representing the Empire State Racing Residency)

(Lord Nelson x (Dancing Spirit) Ghostzapper x Secretariat)

A perfect 2 for 2 to start her, to this point, brilliant career. Mom wasn’t very successful but did her best sprinting. She has already passed her dam in career earnings. Has shown speed in both outings with latest being a wire-to-wire victory in a NW2L allowance race in FL. This will be her first test past 4.5 furlongs, but the bloodlines show that this 6 furlong race shouldn’t be an issue. Expect her to on, or just off the lead in hopes to make it three in a row!

Saddle Number 7 LEGEND LIGHT (22-1)

Trained by Lightng99 Racing Stables (Representing the Empire State Racing Residency)

(Postponed x (Marciana) Teofilo x North Light)

Seemingly just trying to flood the starting gate, is the fourth entrant from Lightng99. Broke her maiden on first asking over the turf course in MN. Each of the next two races have been utter disappointments as she traveled around the globe, stopping in NZ and BRK. Back to the states in race number 4 where she will encounter the dirt surface for the first time. Dam was only ITM once in her 17 race career and is definitely bred for the green. Uphill battle, but you never know?

Saddle Number 8 MAJESTIC LEADER (9/2)

Trained by Kobras Racing Stables (Representing the All-Stars Racing Residency)

(Awesome Again x (Leader Of The Pack) Theatrical x Mr. Prospector)

This daughter, of the very successful stakes winning mare Leader Of The Pack, is looking to become the fifth offspring of hers to be a graded winner. She will be contesting winners for the first time in here. Won a 6 furlong maiden last out in front running fashion, never being challenged. Will probably have some company if she plans a similar racing strategy. Nevertheless, she’s regally bred in comparison to most of these, and should be able to hold her own. Contender for win!

Saddle Number 9 EAGLE DRINK (10-1)

Trained by Lightng99 Racing Stables (Representing the Empire State Racing Residency)

(Recorder x (Five Drink Minimum) Five Star Day x Sunny’s Halo)

The fifth entrant of the Lighng99 barn I can actually make a case for in here. She has improved in each of her starts showing an off the pace running style that could work to her advantage versus these. Didn’t quite have enough to tackle allowance company last out but she was stretching to nearly a mile in that one. The cutback in distance should help as her dam was a stakes winning sprinter. We’ve seen the turf sires do it before.

Saddle Number 10 EXCEEDINGLY REGAL (5/2)

Trained by Scout2 Racing Stables (Representing the Racing HQ Residency)

(Exceed And Excel x (Gigawatt Regality) Bernardini x Storm Cat)

Looking to become the third stakes winner from four crops out of Gigawatt Regality, whom was a stakes winner herself. Sports one win and two seconds from three races and is the only filly in here to have hit the 85+ SP plateau, making here the oddsmakers favorite. Has the front end running style, similar to a few others in here, but is the fastest of the bunch. Getting burned up is the only worry for this daughter of a top turf sire. Definitely is the one to catch if you can!

Thanks for reading and good luck to all contestants!
