Fourteen two year olds make their graded stakes debut in the Grade Three Television Stakes on the Bluegrass Derby undercard, There is one stakes winner here and several stakes placed runners. Ten of the fourteen runners have only made two starts and only one horse has made as many as four. Let’s take a look at the field.
#1 Jamisonit
Jamisonit is a son of Yockey’s Warrior out of the Fit to Fight x Storm Cat mare Jamit. Jamisonit has the most experience of any horse in this race. He sports a 4-2-2-0 record which includes on race and win on turf. He broke his maiden in a January HOT race with a 47 speed. He has since progressed to low to mid 60s speeds. His last two starts were both in Louisiana local restricted race.
#2 Mshashalami 6/1
Mshashalami is a son of Mshawish out of the Dynaformer x A.P. Indy mare Thirty Years War. This is her second foal, her first is a graded placed, stakes winning daughter of Speightstown. The matriarch of this family is the stakes winner The Reformation who has also produced a stakes winner by Mondialiste. After running fourth in his first start he’s won his second two, both at six furlongs. His last race saw him run a 79 speed in victory.
#3 First Midnight 12/1
First Midnight is a son of First Samurai out of a Midnight Lute x Indian Charlie mare. Named Dark Greeley this is her first foal not by the sire Var. She has done pretty well with him, getting a two year old champion in Ion My Way as well as graded placed stakes winner Dark Lute and a stakes placed runner as well. Her three year old seems just ok, perhaps prompting the switch in sire. First Midnight won his first start going 5.5f with a 70 speed. He jumped up to a listed next out and added an extra furlong but only finished tenth.
#4 Uptownsexybrown 8/1
Uptownsexybrown is a gelded son of up and come sire Uptowncharlybrown out of a Speightstown x Capote mare. This is her first foal. Uptownsexybrown won his first start going five furlongs with a 72 speed. He returned to run second by ¾ lengths in a 5f listed with a 74. It may be to his advantage that he is not dropping back in distance for this start.
#5 Sistrurus 18/1
Sistrurus is a son of Rattlesnake Bridge out of a stakes placed Spanish Steps x Trappe Shot mare. Second dam is stakes winner Ringling Bros’ who also produced a stakes winner by Intello. Sistrurus is another horse who does not have to worry about dropping back in distance. Both of his starts came at five furlongs, the first in a local bred maiden special weight and the second in a listed stakes with a 75 speed.
#6 Quality Pirate 10/1
Quality Pirate is a son of Quality Road out of a Pyro x Alysheba mare Alysheba Wind. This is her only foal. Quality Pirate has three starts under his belt including two wins. He broke his maiden going five furlongs in January then returned just a month later to win an allowance at 4.5f. His most recent start came in March when he ran second with a 77 speed in a 5.5f allowance. That’s a lot of races in a short period of time for this colt.
#7 Katisphere 11/1
Katisphere is a daughter of Guitan out of a Scat Daddy x Relaunch mare. This is the first of the mare’s five foals to win a race. Katisphere broke his maiden in January winning an allowance at 5f with a 66 speed. He came back at the end of March to run third in a 6.5f listed stakes where he made all the pace. He ran a solid 74 speed that day. With as much speed as this colt has he may do better than others dropping back from 6.5f to 5f.
#8 Alistair 13/1
Alistair is a son of Maclean’s Music out of the grade one winning Creative Cause x Spectacular Bid mare Damasquerade. Damasquerade was very competitive in the early two year old stakes races but she earned her grade one when stretched out to a mile in the Darley. She was good enough to finish third in the Breeders’ Bowl Juvenile Filly (G1) as well. Alistair has inherited his mother’s propensity towards leading all the way. He’s done it twice in two starts, the last one running a 72 speed. That was at 6f so he will have to drop back to 5f here and there are others in the field who also want that early lead.
#9 Jungle Pirate 6/1
Jungle Pirate is a scratchbred by Lion Heart x Dehere x Caro. He’s the only stakes winner so far in the field. He’s two for two in his career and interestingly he’s somewhat opposite many of the rest of the field. They started in shorter races and moved to longer ones, he started at six furlongs but dropped to five to win the listed. He won that with a 76 speed which makes him pretty formidable here.
#10 Ablazen Fury 8/1
Ablazen Fury is a scratchbred son of Zensational x Pulpit x Grey Dawn II. He broke his maiden in an allowance at five furlongs while running a 68 speed. His next race was also an allowance going six furlongs which he won with a 77.

Malibu Magic Ready is a son of More Than Ready based on a graded placed, stakes winning hemare named Magic Malibu. Magic Malibu is Malibu Moon x Danzig. Malibu Magic Ready is undefeated in two starts, both at 5f. His second race is pretty strong, he won wire to wire with a 74 speed.
#12 Fleet Scat Chachin 16/1
Fleet Scat Chachin is a son of Dangerous Midge based on a Scat Daddy x Afleet Alex hemare named Straight Tequila. Straight Tequila won nince career starts and nearly $300,000. #14 Dens Cadet 14/1
Dens Cadet is a son of Den’s Legacy out of Wag Cadet Wag by Dehere x Mr. Prospector. Den’s Cadet is a half brother to a Stratford Hill filly who was a stakes winner. Dens Cadet has three starts with a win and a third place finish. He broke his maiden in his first start going five furlongs. He returned about three weeks later to run fourth in an Oklahoma-bred allowance. Given two months off he finished a strong third in a five furlong listed with a 73 speed.
Good Luck to All!

Jungle Pirate came through like a champ and if that race was another 1/2 fl. longer Quality Pirate may have beat him
