Blazing Saddles Kentucky Derby

Kentucky Saturday May 4th,2019  3:10pm 10F/  1 1/4m

“The Sun Shines Bright On The Old Kentucky Home…” I’ll cut it off there, because well, if you heard me sing that just now, you also heard the neighbour’s dog howling, and would understand.

Being part of this residency, I really missed out on a fat easy check for 1 of my horses. Here is how I see the field for Saturday’s Big Race!!

#1. ALL THE LIGHTS ON  (8-5)

O/T- EMINC11    JOCKEY- O.A. HAACK

INTO MISCHIEF X SPEIGHTSTOWN X DISTORTED HUMOR   DAM- FUSIONIST

With 8 starts to his early career, & a 93SP high, I’m sure this will be a solid high point for this prominently bred colt. This colt’s Dam was a G1 winner, and there’s no reason this colt will not follow in her footsteps, let alone the male side of the family. Could be close if the distance doesn’t bother him.

#2. AWESOME SWING (8-5) O/T MTKG1OFFSPRING  JOCKEY- T. KELLY AWESOME AGAIN X MINESHAFT X DISTORTED HUMOR   DAM- SWINGING BIG SHAFT

Breaking it’s Maiden last out over 9.5F with a 96 SP, this colt looks like he’s finally maturing in to a racing machine. Like #1, his mother is a G1 winner, and also a winner in excess of $5 Million. Kudos to the breeding/training of this fine colt. Could be the favorite in my opinion.

#3. RICH PART OF TOWN (7-5)

O/T MTKTODAY JOCKEY M.J. KELLY

PALACE MALICE X MALIBU MOON X STORM CAT   DAM- CULTIVATED

Beautiful 3YO colt with all the breeding of the first 2 in the race, including a stakes winning Dam. SP is consistently rising, telling me this colt has more to show. This whole race could go 3 way dead heat.

#4 HISTORY UNFOLDS (21-1)

Computer horse that has no real shot, except picking up the piece of an unchallenged 4th place. We will be watching this horse hit the finish wire, in 4-6 weeks…lollol

I will make a best guess of this possible 3 way dead heat, and choose #2, simply for the 2 facts, Tommy “Machine Gun” Kelly is getting the ride, and because of the Dam winning in excess of $5Million.

Good luck to my fellow residents, may the best horse win!

Raised around Standardbred Racing in Canada, my love for Thoroughbred Racing came watching & Betting on the Triple Crown. First watching the Triple Crown in 1988, wanting Forty Niner to win so bad!(I was a huge Joe Montana & 49ers fan). I love betting the longshots in those fields, and have still only hit 1 Derby Superfecta, but it was for $2750+ & that was a big thanks to Funny Cide. I had cheered on Empire Maker up until the wire, as he was my $5 WPS bet, but then realised it was better for my Superfecta ticket, as I had keyed Empire, and Funny, with 4 horses in 3rd & 4th. Trainers I like and Respect have to include the Legendary D Wayne Lukas, Bob Baffert, Robert Frankel. Currently was following Thunder Snow, Kentucky Wildcat(I believe he can win the Derby this year, but haven't seen anything on his next move!)
