G3: FEAR OF THE DARK
Grade III
A Mile and One Half
Fast Dirt
$125,000
Fillies and Mares, 4 years old
This week in the sunshine state of Florida will be the first run of The Fear of The Dark G3 . A race over a mile and a half on the dirt. The race is open only to mares of 4y of age. Most of them most likely are running their last season before being used as a broodmare next year. It has been sunny already a couple of weeks and this means the track is dry and fast. Unfortunately only 4 mares seem to have found their way to this G3, which makes this race a little less prestigious.
PP Age Name Trainer Odds Pedigree
1 4F INCREDIBLE GENESIS tg1 4/1 Lemon Drop Kid x Afleet x Affirmed
Record: 18 races: 4-5-1
Trainer tg managed to get one of the better jockeys to mount his mare out of Lemon Drop Kid. She is unproven in Stakesraces and this short field G3 is a clever and easy way to get this mare some more Stakespoints. It has been more than a half year since her last win which was on 11f dirt in an Allowance field. Lately was kept in allowances where she finished on the board three times. Her last race was again a Stakes with not too much success: she finished over 8 lengths behind the leader in fourth place. The extra furlong today will suit her without doubt, but the small competition is probably tough enough to make it difficult for her today. She is the only one that never posted a 100SP before.
2 4F PYE ARE SQUARED jeffdrew 3/1 Viscount x Rahy x Mr. Prospector
Record: 9 races: 4-3-1
4 years old and still only starting in her 10th race today is this Viscount-mare running for the wealthy Big Oil Conglomerate. She only ran once late at 3 and started her carreer with a couple of races on turf. This year she switched to dirt and her speeds increased. Has been running 4 races on dirt on this distance and she is a typical frontrunner. She again finds herself a short field today which increases her chances a lot to finish first or second again. I must admit I am in a little doubt with the jockey who is far from as good as what the competition has drawn. I’m actually curious to know whether the trainer picked the jockey or forgot to pick the jockeys.
3 4F BLACK PLEASURE semi 8/5 Stravinsky x What a Pleasure x Bold Bidder
Record: 28 races: 8-8-5
Sired by Stravinsky this mare managed to finish on the board in 75% of her races. It took her 7 races to finally break her maiden and this is only due to the fact that the races were not long enough in the beginning of her carreer. Since then has been trained wisely and moved up the ranks slowly. Her best distance seems to be further than the 12furlongs which she needs to run today but seen her recent results it is safe to say you can expect her to finish first or second today. A. Darling will be riding her today and this gives her a 50% chance of winning.
4 4F WAR IN HEAVEN waremblem8 7/5 War Emblem x Nureyev x Secretariat
Record: 19 races: 5-3-5
Slightly favored by the bookies and seen her last performances I even feel she should be favored even more. This War Emblem mare has succeeded in posting 3 triple figured speeds in her last three races and she is in form winning her last race very easily: that race was also a 12f race in same circumstances as today. It seems like the switch to turf 5 races ago was good enough to waken her up on the dirt again. Today she has the topjockey and finds a field an a G3 which should be an easy win for her. Two races ago she already ran a very decent G2 against a much bigger field in which she finished fifth and she was coming back tremendously in the stretch. That was only a 10f race, so this extra ground is perfect for her. My money goes on her.
