The GR 1 Very Vane Sends Thirteen To post For The 750,000 Prize

The Very Vane (G 1) at nine furlongs over the main course sends thirteen fillies and mares in search of the always formidable Grade 1 win.  The connection of these top filly and mares would love this Gr 1 on the resume which would strengthen their chances for entry into the Breeders Bowl Distaff in the fall.  The race today will be ran at the BB Distaff distance of nine furlong further given connection insight into whether their charges are ready for this top class type competition.

Going to post it is apparent that Jess Killin Time, The Jaguar and Danish Supermodel are the horses to beat.   Jess Killin Time has won the Gr1 Orange Blossom and is sporting good recent form against this type competition and should go to post as favorite.  The Jaguar returns to the GR 1 wars after several races against GR 3 types, scoring a couple of second’s and a win in the Chicago Matron.  It would be a little bit of a surprise if The Jaguar wins today since it’s been 18 months separating her last foray into Gr 1 competition.   Danish Supermodel will be looking to make every pole a winning one as she only knows one way to run.  Hitting the board in 15 out of 19 races with 6 win’s and 6 second’s only solidify’s her as a top contender.   Graded Stakes newcomer Provolone With will make sure that the pace is honest and may hurt Danish Supermodel from trying to wire this field of tenacious Filly’s and Mares.

This 54th ranked,  deep closing filly has been improving tremendously scoring back to back Gr 3 wins….  The four year old looks to take the next step and punch her ticket for a possible start in the BB Distaff.  She’s going to need a hot pace to set it up for her deep closing abilities.

This 20th ranked four year old filly is also hoping for a good solid pace to chase.  Her last win was not super impressive (105) at 8.5 furlongs. The race may have just been a prep for this grade 1.  This filly can run a little closer to the pace if she chooses as she’s been successful in allowance races in this manor.  I still think she’s in a little deep today.  Jockey MJ Kelly will sit on Cybor War for the first time.

 

3.) Jess Killin Time                              114.5                                            M Jolly                       phillipj                    7-1

 

This 2nd ranked 4 year old filly looks to be the horse to beat in here.  Already sporting an impressive Grade 1 win in the Orange Blossom and following that score with 2nd in the GR 1 Steadhemp.  She also ran a 119 speed rating winning The Canada Gr 2.   Jockey M Jolly will ride for the first time but I sure he knows the horse well since most of his family has sat on her.  My Pick in here

 

4.) Danish Supermodel                   109                                            C Mannion                 kimugle1                7-1

 

This 40th ranked 5 year old filly looks to be the speed of the race.  Coming off the The Gr2 My Lady where she wired the group in impressive fashion makes her the likely pacesetter in this race.  The question is whether she can carry it to a 9f distance against a Gr1 competition.  She’s tough and gritty so look for her to at least be in the thick of it when they reach the line.  The last 50 meters may be tough on her.

This 43 rd ranked 5 year old mare who looks to be screaming for more ground.  Coming out of the Gr3 Wiley Jenny at 8.5 furlongs where she passed 9 horses in the stretch  to get the win.  Another that has seen a lot of the Jolly family.  Today P Jolly gets the call for the first time.  I think this filly has the ability to win this with the perfectly times trip.

This 486th ranked 5 year old mare is a solid allowance type but today’s asking is a bit over the top.   The mare of Mineshaft will need to run the race of her life just to get a check with this group.  Ridden today by B Gulch for the first time.   I will put a line through this horse against today’s group.

This 53rd ranked 6 year old mare has been picking her spots in recent months, choosing to stay in with Gr3 types  where’s she’s had some success scoring wins in February of this year and september of last year.  Going in against Gr1’s  will test her to her fullest.   Is she a little long in the tooth to win here?  I will say she’s got a good chance of hitting the board but winning will be tough.  The Jock T Bates has sat on this mare once and scored a good second in the Gr 2 Clement.

This 24th ranked  5 year old mare has been kept out of the winner’s circle thus far in 2018.  She’s been training and racing regularly for years with few extended breaks which may have caught up to her.  She still seems to get checks on a regular basis but against today’s group I’m going to put a line through her.  The fact that O Brim has the mount does not help the cause.  The jock has yet to win in three goes.

This 11th ranked 5 yr old mare has struggled a bit in her 5 yr old season running a couple fourth’s and a third.   The latter being the Gr1 Orange Bloosum where she lost to Just Killin Time by 5 1/4 lengths in the 8.5 F test.  She may have fallen off a bit but it looks like they can crank her up a bit when needed.  She also seems to relish 9F or better to do her best racing.  Jockey M Clooch has been successful riding this mare on several occasions. I look for a nice showing today with a placing.

This 57th ranked 4year old filly has owned the 9-10 Furlong stakes races in North America but this will be her first go at graded competition.  She’s also a front runner that will probably attempt to run with Danish Supermodel which may just take enough out of both of them.  I’m going to pass on this gal today because of the inexperience at this level and the fact that she going to have quality company early.

This 73rd ranked 4 year old filly  is coming off a smashing Gr3 win at 8.5 F which followed a 9F stakes.  This filly can be any type with the big jumps she’s made in her last two starts.  Another who was probably meant for the grass but wanted no part of it early in her career.  I would probably try her again on the turf in the near future unless she surprises this bunch.  She’s hard to throw out in this one so I’ll use in the 3rd spot in my trifecta’s. She’ll be ridden for first time by H Desitter.

This 205th ranked 4 year old filly is coming of a fine effort in the GR2 The My Lady where she was a fast closing second to Danish Supermodel who is also in the race today.  The odds today of 21-1 in my opinion are just silly.   I will also use this one at this price in the 2nd and 3rd spots of my trifecta. The jock today has never been up on this filly.

This 1358th ranked 5 year old mare is in way over her head today.  Still eligible for NW4L Alw and having never won a stakes this mare needs to find a much softer spot to do any damage.  This is my odds on choice to be in the bottom 3.
