MY FIRST 30 DAYS
MY FIRST 30 DAYS IN THE SIM
Wow, first off I would like to tip my hat to the person that came up with and developed this sim. It is super complex over many different layers with 1,000’s and 1000’s of different iterations that all seem to be meshed together seamlessly. I am sure there are probably a few snags here and there that a NEWBIE has not figured out just quite yet, but all in all it seems to run pretty smooth on a daily basis.
Secondly, I want to mention that almost all of the veteran players have been very helpful to me as I have tried to get going. Seems like this is an all-around good bunch of people to be associated with. MARMAC, who got me off and running when I could not figure out which end was up and gave me my first gift horse. Then on his advice I discovered the chat room (Very Good Advice) where I have met several very knowledgeable and generous people. Among them AWK and SPINNY (who I now know is female…….sorry again SPIN). I enjoy just observing the conversations of more seasoned players to see what they think is important. When I have questions, I ask but for the most part I just shut up and read.
Thirdly, upon the advice of VALESA I joined a residency. Being new I thought how can I contribute and why would they want me in their group. So at first I just avoided that section of the game. Again to my surprise I found more people willing to help a new player out and seemed glad to have me as a part of their team. Thanks RIC480, EHR, AMIR and SUMMERSET for letting me join the ERC – ELITE RACING CLUB just in time for the EQUINICS.
When I first created my account I decided that no matter what I would not spend any REAL CASH playing this game, have gotten burned on a couple of app games having to spend real hard earned cash. Then I found that the BLACK TYPE BUGLER would pay you credits for writing articles. Since I enjoy doing that kind of stuff anyways and you need credits in this game – I am now doing race previews. Which again helps out in learning how to play the game, you can observe the different strategies of different owners with how they handle their horses.
Then came the EQUINICS what a super cool event and to have it happen right at the start of my sim career. This just cemented the fact that it was right to be part of a Residency. Hopefully I can get one of mine entered in 2020 but only if they deserve to be there because I want ERC to knock off GR SIMSTERS next time. We tied with them on the TURF now just got to get our DIRT program together.
Other valuable things I have picked up so far: Don’t send a horse you have already raced to the farm just so you can transfer to a different stable (Yes I already have created 4 stables – this game is way too much fun) unless you just want to watch them sit around your farm. You all make it tough at the Auction to get a Female for players that don’t have a lot of sim dollars. I have been trading my sire cards up at that first chance I get and am going to hold out till I get higher cards. I think I have to give my horses a little more time off between races, especially my 2 year olds, can’t afford to burn them out they are the best I got.
I personally am not in the horse game in the real world as I have come to learn that some of you are. I have a little experience at going to the track, we used to make 2 or 3 trips to DRC in Detroit every summer before it closed down to take my chances at the betting windows. After that we only had the harness up here so reluctantly I would go to Sports Creek 5 or 6 times a meet (It was closer than Detroit). So I think I have at least enough knowledge to help me read the racing form and be a little dangerous to my bank balance. For about the last 20 years I have made a small wager on the KY Derby every year. I have a friend that makes the pilgrimage every year. I usually pick a horse for an across the board bet and then we team up to play a 5 or 6 horse superfecta wheel (which we have never hit – YET!).
See you at the Track

Continued good luck and enjoyment JB. Your writing style is very natural and easy to read.
The KD is the only time I bet all year too and I also go for the superfecta. I just put in a couple of hundred in different boxed combinations. I’ve never hit it but I did hit the super for Belmont a long time ago. It was only a couple of hundred, lol!
Welcome JB good to have you on board!
Great read!
You are a welcome addition to our Rez jb3. I look forward to reading many of your articles in the future. By the way, theres a new pony in your jb3pigskin stable, have fun.
Welcome to the sim, you will get years and years of enjoyment here thats for sure, there is no better feeling than to aspire to, then reach a goal you set yourself. Things like 1st stakes win 1st Graded win etc etc.
I noticed that in yesterdays races one of my horses disappeared, and seems it will no longer be racing in Yellow Dog Racing’s colors, but in yours. BABA REBEL was claimed by YDR in July last year as a 4 year old and went straight to the Vet for the “snip”. Costing $3500 and 7 BP’s his 10 starts for YDR netted $38500 and 115 BP’s. Although he has now had 34 lifetime starts he still runs consistent mid to high 90’s SP over dirt sprints, so I hope he performs as well for you as he did me.
Cheers

Very interesting article. I have been playing since 2001 and still I find new things to learn from this great game. Good luck and mostly, have fun.
Good work! Thank you for writing for the BTB – it is a great part of this game.
Awesome, great to see new blood with some passion. I’m sure you’ll be around a long time and welcome aboard.
Alright, JB, you’ve settled in nicely. Already sounding like a vet. Best wishes for all that follows.
4 stables….
I set that goal once, no more than 5 stables. That turned into no more than 10 stables…which turned into no more than 20 stables.
Don’t fight it, it will happen either way
Welcome to the sim…In time, you will find out what works for you and makes YOU happy. That’s the path to follow. The sim community is FAR from perfect, BUT there are enough kind hearted people around who will help you. I can name MANY of them and willing to help they are.
Peace and Enjoy.

Welcome to the sim where progress is measured in lines that span years/decades your just getting started..
Welcome aboard. Just a heads up on the sire cards. With only 4 stables it will take years to get high card’s. You are better off breeding as many horses as you can and put them in maiden claimers. This way you will accumulate points much faster to breed a blue blood. Good luck.
Agreed good tip there
Agreed good tip there
Yes thanks to some generous folks I am already up to 6 stables with 54 horses
