Frenzy(KY) captures Spinning A Tale Challenge
Frenzy(KY) just held on to capture this week’s Spinning A Tale Challenge by a head in a thriller at the wire. He proved that his last outing was not just an anomaly, and that he may be coming into his own, posting a nice 101.4 speed. This was his second consecutive stakes win, and the second of his career. It also gives the colt his fifth win in twelve career starts, and he has still never finished worse than second on turf. The win takes his career earnings to the $148250 mark. It also helps his divisional ranking, jumping him from a rank of 120 to a new ranking of 71 in the three year old Turf Sprint division. Bettors that took a chance this week reaped some nice payouts, with the winner paying $10.80 $5.30 $3.90 across the board. He also contributed to a $67.10 payout in the exacta and a nice $498.30 payout in the trifecta.
Favorite, O.C. Matt(KY) provided the early speed, breaking ahead from the gate along with Guerdon(KY). O.C. Matt(KY) shook out ahead, though, and managed to put up a one length cushion at the half. This was going to prove to be not nearly enough though, in a race that was tough on the front runners. They came in waves down the back side, with the stalkers drawing first blood. Frenzy(KY) and Charizard(KY) battled it out side by side into the stretch, and then came the deeper closers. Just when Frenzy(KY) was beginning to see some breathing space, Sakie(ENG) came tearing down the back of the stretch, eating up the cushion that was there in virtually no time. In a great show of resilience, Frenzy(KY) held off the charging Sakie(ENG) to grab the victory by a scant head at the wire. High At Jumbo’s(FR) came from seven lengths out at the half to take third place honors, a length and a quarter out at the wire.
