Fourteen juveniles looking to head into 2017 on a winning note in THE SAM’S TOWN DELTA JACKPOT (G3).

It is a beautiful day in Louisiana as some of the Sim’s top rising stars will be taking the track to run in THE SAM’S TOWN DELTA JACKPOT.

The event will be featuring a field of 14 hoping to finish out their juvenile campaign in style, and  a win will certainly make one of these runners an early favorite to make it into the Bluegrass Derby.

Let’s take a look at the field:

1) DARK NOS BEST (17/1)

2yo Bay Colt

6 – 0 – 2 – 1 (.500) – $53,750

Jockey: J Selden

Owner: deeprock44

DADDY NOS BEST x LOOKIN AT LUCKY x SUMMER SQUALL

By darkstars11 in California

Two-year-old son of allowance-winning mare, LOOKIN AT LIFE, has bypassed the maiden level, now facing graded company for the fourth time. He has been trending upward in every race, and there is no doubt he will break through. The west coast colt finished 9th, but only four lengths off of the lead last time out in Washington’s BIG HILL STAKES (G2).

2) MONSTROUS CAUSE (6/1)

2yo Brown Colt

7 – 4 – 3 – 0 (1.000) – $501,000

Jockey: V Collins

Owner: amir1763

POUR MOI x DENMAN x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY

By amir1729 in Ireland

This extraordinary colt is ranked 5th in sprints and 15th for longer races on dirt surfaces in the worldwide juvenile division. The son of allowance-winning mare DENBO is looking to add to his already impressive resume. His last time out was a victory in THE CORNSTALK (G3) in Kentucky back in late October. Not only is he 100% on the board, he has yet to finish outside of the winning photo in all of his races. Installed as the second favorite, there is no doubt he will continue his streak of excellence.

3) SINSOF THE NIGHT (7/1)

2yoBay Gelding

4 – 3 – 0 – 0 (.760) – $113,482

Jockey: K Carson

Owner: pbcash1

PIONEEROF THE NILE x KINGMAMBO x AWESOME AGAIN

By pbcash1 in Kentucky

The only gelding in the field is looking for his fourth win in five attempts. The lone blemish on his resume is a 5th place finish in a restricted allowance event in his second race. He ran a career-high 96SP last race in the 2016 GRS JUVENILE in California, and could likely crack the century mark this trip if his upward trend is any indication.

4) DARK MORNING PASS (19/1)

2yo Brown Colt

7 – 2 – 1 – 1 (.571) – $65,288

Jockey: M Chreky

Owner:darkstars1

MORNING LINE x SMARTY JONES x MENIFEE

By aguadeep in Kentucky

The offspring of CAST YOUR SPELL has made a vast improvement since a disappointing 9th in the TRIXY DELIGHT’S SPECIAL (G3) in Argentina. It is important to note that race was run over a sloppy track. On the board the last two races since then, the colt looks to continue his inspiring form.

5) PURPLE ZABEEL (11/1)

2yo Brown Colt

3 – 1 – 1 – 0 (.667) – $47,895

Jockey: I Lopez-Onna

Owner: mannion

AMIRA’S PRINCE x ZABEEL x DIXIELAND BAND

By mannion in Kentucky

After a strong start to his career, the colt finished a few lengths back in the Juvenile Davison of Universal Racing Club’s Breeders Championships his last race – noting he did run a stout 91SP in the 5th place finish.  We will see if the son of SIGI TOLO can get his stride back for this event.

6) TOIL FOR AMETHYST (9/1)

2yo Light Grey Colt

7 – 2 – 1 – 1 (.571) – $75,592

Jockey:  B Coates

Owner: lordpye

TIZNOW x UNBRIDLED’S SONG x AWESOME AGAIN

By lordpye in Kentucky

While it took him a few races to break his maiden status, the colt is now showing what he is capable of taking a restricted allowance his last run. Now, owner/breeder lordpye is moving him to the graded level looking to capitalize on this good form. The son of stakes-winning mare, OIL HYSTERIA, has a chance to continue his trajectory toward the Derby preps next year.

7) FORTY IS GOLDEN (8/1)

2yoBay Colt

5 – 3 – 1 – 0 (.800) – $165,895

Jockey:  F Oxon

Owner: ddstables17

CARPE DIEM x FORTY NINER x SEEKING THE GOLD

By ddstables17 in Kentucky

He scored a close win in Pennsylvania’s LOVELY SHEEP DIRT JUVENULE last time out. He prefers to closely stalk the pace and then take over in the stretch run. Now bumping up to graded company for the first time, FORTY IS GOLDEN looks to secure his third win on the trot.

8) SHADY LEA (5/1)

2yo Roan Colt

6 – 3 – 0 – 0 (.500) – $126,540

Jockey: G Wendorff

Owner: chilimac2

LEA x UNBRIDLED’S SONG x SADLER’S WELLS

By chilimac in Kentucky

One of the top competitors produced from freshman sire, LEA. Finished three lengths behind MONSTROUS CAUSE in THE CORNSTALK (G3) to finish 4th running out of track in a strong closing bid. Now looking to build off of that performance, the son of stakes-winning mare, HARBORTOWN, is looking for a fourth win here in Louisiana. The odds makers appear to be impressed with his burst down the stretch last time out making him the program favorite.

9) IOWA HAWKEYES (17/1)

2yo Light Grey Colt

6 – 3 – 0 – 1 (.667) – $69,054

Jockey: G Schroeder

Owner: tonyalb7

GRAYDAY x BROAD BRUSH x SUMMER SQUALL

By tonyalb7 in Kentucky

This two-year-old has shown some flashes of brilliance in his young career including an 89SP at this distance last time out. After that win, owner/breeder tonyalb7 has made the decision to make the long trek to Louisiana all the way from New Zealand.  His only stakes appearance is a possible throw out on a sloppy track in Denmark’s COURT CASE DIRT JUVENILE in early October.

10) LASALLE (13/1)

2yoBay Colt

4 – 3 – 0 – 0 (.750) – $124,458

Jockey: J Drozd

Owner: heatmizer

XTENSION x DANZIG x SEATTLE SLEW

By heatmizer in Ireland

After his debut race on the lettuce, owner heatmizer switched LASALLE over to the main track and he is perfect since that mark. Last time out he took the flag in the RUUD VAN N. DIRT JUVENILE in Thailand. Now making the trip to the States, the son of allowance-winning mare DANZASLEW looks to continue on his winning ways.

11) BECKS (27/1)

2yoBay Colt

11- 2 – 0 – 5 (.636) – $58,120

Jockey: Ja Davis

Owner: graywolf44

RHINEBECK x INDIAN CHARLIE x HIGH YIELD

By graywold44 in Australia

The son of NAKED INDIAN is making his first trip to the states on the heels of a few good performances, including a win in the $150k claiming ranks a few races back. He has a tall order facing graded company for the first time, but he could certainly be there if he takes to the distance.

12) DOUBLEBLACKDIAMOND (8/1)

2yoBay Colt

7 – 4 – 2 – 0 (.857) – $131,195

Jockey: V Jennings

Owner: mrvoice

OASIS DREAM x CAPOTE x MR. PROSPECTOR

By mrvoice in England

Two-year-old is the offspring of grade three winning and highly successful mare, VIXEN PROSPECTOR;  who has produced multiple graded winners.  He has taken well to the main track switching over three races ago.  A convincing win in the PRO DEED DIRT JUVENILE last race has prompted owner/breeder mrvoice to try the grade three level with this impressive colt. The odds makers concur with this move giving him a good chance at 8/1.

13) JIMNTOM’S TUNES (11/1)

2yo Roan Colt

5 – 2 – 3 – 0 (1.000) – $104,750

Jockey: D Hogin

Owner: jimntom1

TALK IS MONEY x UNBRIDLED’S SONG x CORONADO’S QUEST

By smokeglack in Pennsylvania

The impressive son of mare, BIRDIE’S SONG, has never finished more than three lengths out of the lead in five career races. Already breaking six digits in career earnings, the colt now sets his sights on graded competition for the first time. It is difficult to think he won’t be in the mix at the end given his excellent career history.

14) UNION’S WILD (10/1)

2yoBay Colt

3 – 1 – 0 – 1 (.667) – $43,360

Jockey: E Seifert

Owner: loki

UNION RAGS x WILD AGAIN x FORTY NINER

By loki in Kentucky

He has threatened in two listed stakes attempts after breaking his maiden in his debut race. With strong SP numbers, we will see if the colt can continue improving on his way to facing graded company for the first time. Look for a closing drive down the stretch from this son of UNION RAGS.

SINSOF THE NIGHT has been more than impressive in his young career, and a wire-to-wire victory is highly likely this time around.

MONSTROUS CAUSE’s consistency cannot be argued with in this contest, and he’ll certainly be in the mix down the stretch.

Looking for two wins in a row, TOIL FOR AMETHYST might just fall short in this one, but he will one of the runners challenging for a top spot at the line.

At 11/1, JIMNTOM’S TUNES is the BTB LONGSHOT SPECIAL. With three straight runner-up finishes, maybe it’s his turn to break through here in Louisiana.
