2016 Bargain Bowl: Several Strong Contenders Aiming to Capture the Featured Bargain Classic

The Bargain Bred Racing Series (BBRS) is a competition featuring the best, modestly-bred runners in the Sim.  Holding event days a few times a year at different locations, the Bargain Bowl is the signature event on the calendar.

The feature race on the card will be the $100K Bargain Bowl Bargain Classic. Nine horses from all over the planet have made the trip to run for the title.

Let’s take a look at the field:

1) SLIPPERY TRUTH (8/1)

5yo Light Grey Horse

27 – 4 – 4 – 3 (.407) – $242,336

Jockey: A Cummings

Owner: jbfarms

DIKTAT x TALKIN MAN x SLIP ANCHOR

By jbfarms in Japan

The 2014 champion of this event looks to reclaim his title this year after a recent string of disappointing results in allowance company. It is safe to say he was in the best form of his career at that point in 2014, and he will need to find that again to be a factor in this contest.

2) PEER OF THE REALM (7/2)

5yoBay Horse

32 – 10 – 3 – 7 (.625) – $256,312

Jockey: S Sims

Owner: piano10

SILENT NAME x DAHAR x MTOTO

By pianoaxius in Canada

PEER OF THE REALM finished a disappointing 6th in THE COPPER CUP last time out. It is important to note that six of his ten wins have come on the poly surface, but his dirt numbers are also strong. Trying to track down an elusive first BBRS win, he has shown he can run the numbers it takes to win a big race like this one. The odds makers like his chances installing him as the program favorite.

3) LOUD COLORS (6/1)

3yo Roan Colt

12 – 3 – 4 – 4 (.917) – $228,445

Jockey: K Kirby

Owner: allenkane

BOISTEROUS x FORTPRADO x CLODOVIL

By diamond3 in California

Impressively consistent three-year-old has only missed the board once in his young career – a race in which he ran a 100SP over this distance in a BBRS event. He closed down the stretch, but eventually was overtaken by rival SANDAL KEEP in THE COPPER CUP last time out for a 2nd place finish. The sky is the limit for this California colt who appears to be on the upward trend.

4) VULCAN’S EGO (10/1)

5yoBay Horse

27 – 10 – 6 – 2 (.667) – $155,247

Jockey: D Pickel

Owner: lglong2oyx

VULCAN’S PULPIT x RAISE MY EGO x LINDSEY’S ROBERTO

By harrylanlow13 in New Mexico

Hit the double-digit mark in the win column his last time out in a local-bred, 30k restricted claiming event. After running in a series of claimers in New Mexico, the grandson of PULPIT makes the short trip west to Arizona looking to cash in his first ever stakes victory. He switched back to the dirt the last two races and a jump in SP figures has appeared to prompt this attempt at BBRS glory.

5) JIMSJUNK (13/1)

3yoBay Colt

17 – 8 – 3 – 3 (.824) – $173,450

Jockey: S Barry

Owner: lglong4ok1more

MAYANO TOP GUN x BILLY ALLEN x MR WELLS

By purejunk15 in Japan

After running a 100SP in a claiming event last time out, this three-year-old will now take his first crack at a BBRS racing event. Running primarily in the Oriental region, he now takes the trip to North America in an effort to secure his first win on this side the Pacific since the beginning of his career in August of 2015. One important note: he is remarkably consistent finishing no less than five lengths out of the lead in all 17 career races.

6) SANDAL KEEP (9/2)

4yoBay Colt

11 – 5 – 1 – 2 (.727) – $146,788

Jockey: R Wray

Owner: gowansbbrs

SCANDAL KEEPER x SUNNY’S HALO x SEQUOIA SLEW

By joss in Australia

He rallied from 15 lengths back in THE COPPER CUP last time out, defeating a few current rivals in the process while running a career-high 106SP. Now he sets his sights on the Bargain Classic looking to make it two BBRS events in a row. If he gets the same blazing pace as last time, he will certainly be rolling down the stretch in this affair.

7) COAGULATE SENT (5/1)

4yoBay Colt

15 – 2 – 2 – 1 (.333) – $50,199

Jockey: M Kozak

Owner: pianobrgn

BINARY FILE x SEA WALL x ACCLAIMED HONOUR

By coagulate6 in Denmark

His results in the BBRS have been disappointing so far not hitting the board in five events. His last victory came in a 50k, restricted claimer back in early June. His 100+ SP figures are a good indication that if he can find that extra gear, it is quite possible you might see him around at the end.

8) LAISSE TOMBER (8/1)

3yoBay Colt

10 – 2 – 1 – 3 (.600) – $121,474

Jockey: E Young

Owner: piano17

MAHLER x TORRENTIAL x PROVE OUT

By pianoaxius in Ireland

The only entry from the British Isles has been on the BBRS circuit for the last few races hitting the board six of his last seven starts. His only series win came in THE CHESAPEAKE back in late May. If the young colt is able to find his best stride, look for him to factor in the equation.

9) OPEN TO ALUMNI (4/1)

5yo Chestnut Horse

18 – 7 – 3 – 0 (.556) – $395,170

Jockey: J Dizzle

Owner: mtkiscrabbyinmd

BELLAMY ROAD x ALUMNI HALL x DARE AND GO

By mtkpa in Kentucky

Took the title in the BARGAIN SUMMER CLASSIC back in August running a very impressive 108SP. He is looking for a bounce-back race after a disappointing 9th in THE COPPER CUP. Lightly-raced in his career which includes an apparent injury in the 2014 edition of the Bargain Classic which kept him out of action for around seven months. He has been impressive since then, and can run the numbers it takes for victory in this event.

The closing drive of SANDAL KEEP will be hard to beat in this race as it was on display his last time out.

The recent form of OPEN TO ALUMNI is hard to argue with, and he will definitely be there at the end.

PEER OF THE REALM will look to set the pace and hold on at the wire.

Not to be overlooked, JIMSJUNK has been running strong lately making him the clear pick for the BTB LONGSHOT SPECIAL.

All nine horses will go the post looking to capture the signature event of the BBRS season. It promises to be a race for the ages with all of the quality lined up in this race. A fast track will yield fast times on Saturday in Arizona.
