A tight one in Texas
On tap this Saturday in the
Let’s look at the field of 4.
PETRIE’S GOLD (8/5) Coming off a win in The LA Sword Memorial with a strong 93 speed figure she seems like a tough competitor here. She has 5 wins in 9 tries and her owner thebigo has been excellent at finding great spots for this Roan Mare to use her solid closing kick. Solid young jock J. Webb gets the mount and he surely has the talent to win this.
BIG NOSED KATE (8/5) She comes off a solid 3rd place finish in The Queen Disturbing Special. In that race she ran a career high 92 speed figure. She has 3 wins in 10 tries and some very close ITM finishes. She won 2 stakes races as a 2 year old and has been trained wonderfully by sipe. This Brown Mare gets T. Meeks in the saddle and should have something to say about the finish in this race.
URKO’S CASTLE (3/1) The trainer champs must be ecstatic about the start this Brown Mare has had. After breaking her Maiden in her first start, she went on to win 3 straight Stakes races. She had her first lost last out in an Allowance test but still finished a solid 2nd. Her high speed figure so far is a 90 so she faces a daunting task in taking down the top two. She does get C. Shoemaker in the irons and he is one of the best jockeys at the track. This mare has had no troubles dismissing challengers and surely will not shy away Saturday.
SKYJACKER (3/1) This Brown Mare has had a wonderful start to her career. 4 wins and 2 places out of 7 starts is surely the sign of a horse that can do some running and a trainer, 911, who knows how to handle this lady. She is a hair behind the other ladies in the race since she has not managed to win a Stakes race yet. She did have a strong 2nd by a nose in The Tootsie Rain Stakes. Her speed figures are a little bit behind the other mares in this race but she gets a smoking hot jockey in R. Fav. Just having him on her back gives her a shot at improving enough to make this an interesting finish.
My take: This is going to be a very good race. Speed guys would have to go with Petrie’s Gold but every horse in this race has a legit show at winning. Urko’s Castle and Skyjacker has lesser speed figures but they have very good jockeys on board. This one should come down to the line but it is too close for me to call.
