Spotlight Race of the Day: 1/28 Newmarket Allowance

The fourth stop for the Spotlight on its sim-world tour of all race tracks is in Newmarket where the racetrack is throwing the doors open for fans to come in and watch just one race on their card which has an early morning post time of 11:15.   I would suggest betting from an online account for this race and save the travel costs, not worth going to the track for one race.  And this would be an allowance race for local breds that are non-winners of three races in their lifetime.  Only 3 year olds are eligible for the 7 furlong race that will be on the poly track.

1  NATHAN WEST  2/1-Career best speed in last knocking off an 88 speed while finishing second on poly beaten by half a stride.  Speed number is huge boost from mid-70 range the colt has been stuck in over the past four starts.  Could earn second career win this time out.

2  END OF MY WIRE  9/2-Only two starts on poly, both coming in early half of 2015 where this colt finished second in both.  Speeds over last three have been in 78 to 80 range in combo of turf and dirt starts.   This includes only race in allowance where he finished last going over a mile in distance.  With that said, he does look better fit in this field.

3  VERDANT PLACE  6/1-Opened the eyes of bettors when he upset a field of poly runners over this track in his only lifetime start on New years Eve.  At 17/1 he pressed the pacesetter from the second position and then easily moved to the lead and relaxed to win by over a stride and solid 80 speed.  Still offers decent value here and could be a repeat.

4   FARHH KRISS  5/2-This front running colt moved over to try the poly after running turf for five straight races.  He ran at the end of 2015 on the poly and over the Newmarket oval holding onto second the entire trip with a concluding speed of 77.   Able to improve this number and has struck 84 on turf before.  On board in four of six starts and could add another tally to the count.

5  JOSR DUSTY  19/1-Recovering from an injury suffered in September this colt is making his first start back.  He has shown a liking for the poly with four starts on the surface and finished second each time.    Race sponsor is hoping that he can pick things up where he left off prior to the injury but the colt may need a race or two to regain his confidence.

6  DARK SUN CENTRAL  21/1-Longshot is still seeking first career win and the allowance level looks to be a bit overwhelming.  Speeds have topped in mid-60’s and well below many of his competitors.   He enters this race off his sole poly start where he finished third going a mile in small field.

7  LASAO  3/1-Ran two times in December on poly surface with first on 12-11 where he won with 83 speed at 5.5f.  As a two year old, he ran again on the surface in less than three weeks and finished 7th, well off the lead at the same distance.    Gets a better rest break coming into this race and does extend in distance, which I think will be beneficial.

Nathan West gets decent rest between races and top speed in last earns vote for winner’s circle here.

Verdant Place could show that his debut in last was not a fluke.

Lasao cannot be ruled out.
