Spotlight Tipsheet: Florida 12/22

Nice race conditions continue to follow the Spotlight as it crosses from track to track.  This time it makes a stop in Florida and fast conditions with overcast skies but no threat of foul weather.  Here are my picks for each of the seven carded races:

 

Race 1  Starter Allowance  Race ID : 1592454

1-Dino Baggio  9/5-Won last two with latest at 10 furlongs.  Only concern is shipping from overseas.

8-Futzing Around  9/5-Nice 100 speed in last at 8.5 furlongs but can handle longer distance, a threat to top pick.

3-Desert Stroll  7/2-A threat when in claiming level.  Starter Allowance not much different then claim level, factor in this one.

 

Race 2   Claim   Race ID : 1593142

3- On The Improve  3/2-Has record of 3-3-2 over last eight starts.   Faces tough group here but she’s a toughy herself.

1-Stratfordpalooza  5/2-Dips out of allowance into high end claimers.  Resides at Florida race track and has 11 wins in 22 lifetime starts.  Class drop could add boost.

4-Big Band Era  2/1-Third with local breds in last with 99 speed.   Cannot rule out.

 

Race 3  Allowance   Race ID : 1593242

4-In The Sin Bin  8/5-Has won twice on poly surface in two starts and last charted 86 speed in April which fits well in this field, slight advantage.

3-Achilles Punks  4/5-Long time poly surface runner has seen speeds drop over the year.  Could pull things back together.

5-Woop Another  7/1-Makes first poly start of career.  Speeds over turf look better than remainder of field.  Gets a piece of the purse.

 

Race 4  Allowance   Race ID : 1595388

5-Spring Hilled  1/5-Speeds of 99 and 100 over last two are tops in this field.  Has been first or second in last 8 starts which include five wins.  Best bet.

4-Before Too Long  3/1-Drops out of route to 7.5f sprint.  Front runner may benefit with shorter distance.

6-FB Song  11/1-Speeds have moved upward from low 80’s to mid 80’s recently, could be blooming.

 

Race 5  Claim   Race ID : 1587017

8-Legal Critic   6/1-Pair of 92 speeds in last two starts.  Drops down claim ranks and offers some value here.

11-Bonderaben  5/2-Speeds of 90+ in last five reflect a solid runner.  A contender.

2-Altar Bound  5/1-Can run better than last start which was first race back after 6-month layoff.  Expecting bigger things this time out.

 

Race 6  Claim   Race ID : 1607528

8-Alex’s Notion  9/2-Top three finishes in six of last seven dirt appearances.   Pretty open race that several horses could nab, going with this one.

3-McGilton  9/2-Flows out of allowance/listed stakes races that he’s been competing in since the Spring this year, class change could be beneficial.

9-Carletti  13/1-Has done well in claimers in the past, offers nice value.

 

Race 7   Claim  Race ID : 1590330

1-Sloppy Ride  3/2-Going long 12 furlongs for first time but speed numbers have been fine an looking better than foes.  Gets this if he doesn’t tire.

7-Coosa River 22/1-Won easily against older by two strides at 38/1 and 11 furlongs in first career start.  Could upset again.

2-Noble Fever  8/5-Broke maiden in last going 11 furlongs but took 16 tries to do so.  Speeds not inspiring but swaps over to turf for first time, may find a new preference.
