Bargain Bowl Tale Of Two Places Sprint

Stakes
Six furlongs
Fast Dirt
$125,000
All horses, 3 years old and up
Our third race of the Bargain Bred series today is the six furlong Tale Of Two Places Sprint. We’ve got a full field of homely bargain breeds that are all looking at a share of the $125,000 purse. For just about all of our entries, this is the most that they ever raced for. The field is pretty even save for a few extreme long shots. Most are veteran sprinters who have competed well in the allowance and starter allowance ranks and look to add this trophy to their resume.
PP 1
7/2 RANDOM NUMBERS
(MEADOW MONSTER x SIMPLY GREAT(FR) x ZIGGY’S BOY)
Trainer: bigrama
Breaking from the inside gate is our morning line favorite Random Numbers. This Meadow Monster colt ran earlier this May in a $12,500 claimer but was picked up just recently by bigrama in auction for $2.1 million. He’s hoping that the big purchase will pay off today. He seems like a solid first choice as he’s been running consistent recently with SR’s in the high 90’s but hopes to rebound after a disappoint 12th place finish in his last race in the GR Simsters Championship Dirt Sprint. Look for him to sit just a few lengths off the pace before making a move down the chute.
PP 2
16/1 LITTLE SINNER
(SEVEN FIGURES x YAMANINSKY(JPN) x BIG JOKER)
Trainer: cronberg2
Little Sinner is one of those horses you just love to hate. For such humble breeding, he’s actually managed to stay competitive at the claiming level and that usually what you ask for such a horse. Although the wins have been pretty hard to come by recently, he usually does just enough to cash a check or two for trainer cronberg2 as he looks for more of the same today. Although it’s hard to gather much support for a veteran horse like this who consistently rates in the 80’s he could be one of those trifecta spoilers that the public just loathes. Depending on how you bet, he might be a decent choice on the third part of your tri-wheel.
PP 3
9/1 MIX IT GOOD(IRE)
(SHERNAZAR(IRE) x TO THE QUICK x SPANISH DRUMS)
Trainer: lgbost7
Mix It Good(IRE) continues to drop in distance after two horrible outing in his last two races. There’s no doubt that his colt has some great natural speed but has just had nothing left in the end in several of his races this year. What is ironic is that both races he’s won this year have come at 7.5 furlongs. Perhaps he may like the longer races better but has just been outrun by sprint specialists. It seems that the pace of the race may dictate his chances as he has run well when off the lead a bit. However, don’t be too quick to count him out as he has shown the capability to run at this distance in the past.
PP 4
13/1 BEN
(FLEET FOOT x
Trainer: shergar1
The beginning of the year showed great signs for trainer shergar1 and his colt
PP 5
5/1 NORTHSHIRE ABBEY
(CAPTURE THE GOLD x EASTERN ECHO x ELEVATION)
Trainer: bigheavy
At 5/1, Northshire Abbey may be overlooked by many. As our only previous stakes winner, his trainer bigheavy may feel snubbed by the morning line odds maker. He most certainly made a statement earlier this year as the surprise winner in The ALYUNDERCUT DEAL Cap-Stk where he saved ground and may a good payday despite going off at 12/1 odds. However, both wins this year have come on an off track and any chance of rain has now faded. He’ll have to contend with the fast track but I think he still has the raw speed and skill to find the winner’s circle.
PP 6
6/1 YONDU
(THUNDER BREEZE x BEOWULF x INVINCIBLE DOOLEY)
Trainer: bensonkris
Lady luck hasn’t showed her head this year much for Yondu. He’s got one win on the year and four second place finishes. Even when he managed to put together a career best race as he did earlier this February he still finished second by less than a length despite recording a 102 SR. His four second place finishes have all been with 1¼ lengths as his back of the pack running style has backfired on him as he seems to run out of track just as he’s gathering steam. The shortened distance of six furlongs here doesn’t help matters much. Trainer bensonkris is hoping that he can rebound with his colt after a difficult race last time out.
PP 7
11/1 U R THE BEST
(WATCH THE BIRD x STALWART x GALLAPIAT)
Trainer: nickesyd5
It’s hard to gauge U R The Best’s chances today as his last few races don’t really show a distinctive form pattern. He did win very impressively two races back in an allowance NW3L where he posted 96 SR but sandwiched between that start are just two horrible races where he never contended and was rated at 78 and 76 SR respectively. His best races have come at or near the lead but will need to show that he can hold that pace throughout in order to grab a share of the purse. To me it’s a coin flip as to which horse will show up.
PP 8
39/1 HARD EFFECT(IRE)
(TENDER KING(IRE) x NATIVE UPROAR x FIRST CONSUL)
Trainer: pict1
Hard Effect(IRE) starts our set of extreme outside chance horses. He’s being dropped way down in distance from his usual 8 furlongs and I seem to like the move. He’s only managed one win in the last two seasons which was earlier this year in a Clm-2500NW2L at a mile where he notched a career best 91 SR. This horse loves to take the lead but at two turns he never can seem to hold it. The distance drop looks to play well here but he’ll have to show a lot more speed than he has in the past in order to remain competitive.
PP 9
9/2 BRIEFLY POSSIBLE(IRE)
(NOT IMPOSSIBLE (IRE) x BRIEF TRUCE x STRAIGHT STRIKE)
Trainer: bradyboy
Briefly Possible(IRE) has certainly turned up the heat this season after turning four. He’s a winner in two of his last four races including the Claiming Jewel – The Fast Mover-Str where he posted a career best 101 SR. He shows a running style very similar to Random Numbers and it looks like it might be race right down to the wire. The big question is what he’ll have left in the tank as he’s shown some signs of fatigue in the last 1/8th in a few of his races this year. He shortens up just a tad here and I think the distance works in his favor. Not a bad choice at 9/2.
PP 10
13/1 MAXIMUTOPIAN
(SOCIETY MAX x FABULOUS DANCER x ARTAIUS)
Trainer: ratt49
Making his second start after a lengthy layoff, Maximutopian looks to rebound to the form he showed in July. This horse showed some real promise lat in his three year old season with 100+ SR’s but has been lightly raced the past two years. Although his last two races have been utterly horrible, he has shown that he’s capable of taking down any of his competitors here today. He’s expected to challenge for the early lead but has had fatigue problems in many of his races this year. Perhaps a change in strategy might be in store. Either way, he’ll most certainly find a way to remain competitive.
PP 11
12/1 CONSULANCE
(FIRST CONSUL x FABULOUS DANCER x CENTAINE (AUS))
Trainer: zman2
Consulance has managed to cash some checks for trainer zman2 since being claimed five races back for $25,000. A win here could make that $25k a nice investment. This is another late closer that has found the shorter distances a bit troublesome. In three of his last four races he’s found the finish line sneaking up before he’s ready and gives six furlongs another try. However, with the quick early pace that’s likely to set up he might just find that extra gear useful. The career best 94 SR may not look to good at first but with a softer than expected field it might prove good enough.
PP 12
49/1 GOLD STORM DANCER
(FUTURE STORM x GOLD CASE x DANCE BID)
Trainer: albarace3
Another horse dropping down in distance today is the #12 Gold Storm Dancer. This three year old colt looked very good this past spring when he narrowly missed a win in a 7 furlong Alw-35200NW2L with an 87 SR. Thinking that the colt needed a bit more distance, trainer albarace3 stretched him over a mile several times but the distance seems just too much for him. He’s not being given much of a chance with the finishes he had in those races but he will certainly improve here at 6 furlongs. He could certainly use a good showing as he is winless so far this year.
PP 13
14/1 S. S. PENGUIN
(CAPTIVE FORCE x ONION JUICE x PLEASANT COLONY)
Trainer: ohtogo
With perhaps the best chances of a victory among the trio of three year olds entered, S.S. Penguin and trainer ohtogo hope to put their best foot forward and get a jump on the early lead. He’s fresh off a victory last time out in an Alw-15400NW1x which marked his first victory since winning his maiden at first asking. It’s been a slow and steady climb for this three year old but he seems to be progressing along. If you’re looking for a long shot in today’s race, this may be it as three years olds typically start to mature and compete with their older counterparts this time of the year. He may be due for a break out race and at 14/1 he would return a nice sum for you. Worse case, try to wheel him in a trifecta somewhere.
PP 14
64/1 SMITH GINN(IRE)
(KHELEYF (IRE) x NOTABLE CAT x BOLD COMMANDER)
Trainer: beisbol
Starting the extreme outside gate and getting the most extreme odds to boot is beisbol’s Smith Ginn(IRE). Call me nuts but I’m actually going to lay a $500 show bet on this horse. He’s a three year old with only two career starts. He won at first asking with a 77 SR and then finished a very strong 4th in his next race in an Alw-15300NW1x where he jumped 11 points in SR with an 88. What else can you ask for in long shot with such a limited record? If he can improve even farther he might just surprise everyone. He’ll need to settle in somewhere mid-pack but not too far back so he can make a move at the right time. Who’s with me on this one?
