Challenge Update: One Out of Three Not Bad

After a lot of races the last two weeks, this week and next are scaled back to only three. I had once good result of the three this week and hope next week will be even better.

Results

Kicking things off this week was a sire card bred filly named DESPERATE MEASURE who made her first career start. At 13/1 in a small five horse field she did well, keeping within a length of the leader for most of the 8.25 furlong race. She couldn’t keep up in the final quarter but was second best in the field and pulled in 40 BP’s along with a G-card.

A 92 speed is pretty good and that’s what KID ALLIANCE touted this week. He finished fourth in a starter allowance race and got nicked of any BP’s due to traveling costs. I try to keep these horses region bound but when they are up to run I do pursue the opportunity to go for those BP gems. Did not work this time and a lowly G-card came out of the deck.

CJ’S MR. AWESOME is one I thought would be claimed away from me as he has one of those Hot Race badges. I claimed him for $10k and tried to keep him within the region and he actually got dropped down to $5k in the 7.5 furlong dirt race. He ran off the lead early on but could not muster any late run and finished 6th. The speed of 83 wasn’t that great. For now, I’m going to sideline him at the farm and see if any rest will help. But it won’t be until near the end of the challenge that I may use him again. A good ol’ G-card.

Stable Changes

MUSICALL RIDE has been brought up from the minor leagues (farm) and will replace CJ’s Mr. Awesome who is going to get some rest with hope of a nice recovery. Musicall Ride can run on both dirt and turf as well as on an off-track so there are lots of potential spots to place this 5 year old. He hasn’t won a sprint yet but I can’t rule that out as he’s finshed second four times in seven starts in short runs.

Next week I’m looking at 3 starters followed by 6 the second week, so I’ll be a little short thereafter. I do have some in the farm I can use should I elect to auction off some underperformers, which is most likely to happen. So planning ahead, I’ve spent 4 G-cards and have a horse that I’m not too enthusiastic about named CHALLENGE TAKER. She’s a 3-year old bred with the best talent, such as Mr. Prospector coming from way down the chain.

Totals

SIRE CARDS:

Three G-cards came my way and 4 were used in breeding. The total cards are 2-F card and 18 G-cards.

BP’s

40 BP’s are not too bad, but came from only one runner. The others brought home zilch. Advance the total to 449.
