The Challenge…Going Down Hill :(

After a miserable week 6, things went from bad to worse in week 7.   No BP’s earned this week, in fact I actually lost a few thanks to the cost related to claiming horses.  Just like having a losing football team where the coach needs to manipulate the roster around.

Results

As the 9/5 favorite in a $5k claiming race, MARVELOUS MACHINE offered a lot of promise.   I pushed her onto the turf where she’s done fairly well in the past and she shot out to the lead, which is her forte.   But I quickly became disappointed with jockey J Whaley her took her well out to the lead only to empty her tank by the stretch run and puttered across the line in fourth.  No BP’s either as she had to ship to the track.  Added, she was claimed from me and only drew a G-card.

Next up was HALF TANKED who has already scored a win and second for me and took a nudge downward into a $10k claiming race.  He ran well early, stalking the leaders from the third spot but when it came time to produce results,  he faded back to lose by 7.  Might need a rest but I’m not in this challenge for resting horses.  I’ll have to think this over as 6^th place only gained a G-card.

When a horse has “awesome” in the name, you expect results.    SUPER AWESOME SONG was anything but awesome.  In his second start for me, I dropped him into $7,500 claimers, the lowest level of his career.   He was a respected 4/1 with betters looking to cash in on the claim drop but results were an embarrassing ninth.  He’ll be promoted to the auction block.  No BP’s and one G-card.

Stable Changes

I opened up the wallet and sought to add to improve upon the diminishing results of this stable by making three claim bids.  I lost two of these but did walk off with KID ALLIANCE who I think is probably the best of the three.  This 5-year old earned his fifth win this week in a $5k claimer going 7 furlongs with a 96 speed.   He’s been running 90+ speeds since November and even hit 100 a pair of times.  He’s eligible for lower starter allowance races and that will probably be my target for him, although a short field allowance race or even a high-end claimer can’t be ruled out.  He’s active in the stable and will run in a few weeks, filling the spot of claimed Marvelous Machine.

With Super Awesome Song going into auctions, another vacancy is in the stable.  The F & G-card mixed bred CARD PLAY is going into that slot with hopes some of our cards can earn some BP’s.
