The Kergorlay G2 – $375,000
At 14 furlongs over firm turf, this Grade-2 marathon for 3-year olds and older promises to challenge the endurance of the field.
1) Classic Twelve: 14-1 This 4yo son of Dubawi has only been running in allowance company and has not even run a listed stakes at this distance. Not a contender.
2) Cizin Canford: 7-1 This 4yo colt ran a 110SP in his G2 win over 13F in The Cold Plate back in April. But, he backed off to a 99SP in the 16F G1 Gold Glass in June. Maybe he will do ok over 14F here, but I wouldn’t bet him any better than 3rd, and then only if I had an extra $2 in my pocket I didn’t mind losing.
3) Johnny Cleveland: 11-1 This 3yo son of Sea The Stars may have what it takes to make some noise in this race. He ran a 96SP at 10F in the G3 Jargon Stakes in April (finishing 6th), improved to 102SP over 12F GR Simsters English Derby (finishing 3rd), and then upped it to a 105SP in a 13.5F Allowance in early July (finishing 2nd). The extra half furlong may be what he needs to pull off the win, but I wouldn’t bet him better than 2nd.
4) Founder: 4-1 2 wins and a place in the last 3 races, 105SP or better, all on the dirt. The last turf race for this 4yo colt was back in April and he ran a 92. I don’t think he will like the grass here and I don’t think he will hit the board.
5) Dark Craftydancer: 28-1 The 3yo’s best runs have come in turf sprints. I don’t think the change in distance helps him here. Not a contender.
6) W as in Whiskey: 4-1 I think the odds-makers were drinking some whiskey when the sent this 4yo off at 4-1. While he has solid performances on turf in graded company, his best success has been on the dirt. Put your $2 bet toward a shot of whiskey instead of here as I don’t think he hits the board.
7) Tete Mattias: 8-5 It looks like the odds-makers got this one right as Tete Mattias will probably take the win here. He won with a 112SP over 14F LTO in the G3 Irish Cup, following up a 104 and a 109 in his previous 2 listed stakes (a win and a place). I would bet the favorite to win here.
8) Zabeel Appeal: 4-1 This 4yo son of Zabeel has shown a tendency to lead then fade in 2015. I think that holds true here with him setting the pace then fading at the end.
Win: Tete Mattias
Place: Johnny Cleveland
Show: Zabeel Appeal
Giving some love: Cizin Cranford
Please! An appeal to the BTB Travel staff…get me out of this HOSTEL and into a HOTEL! I think there was typo when you were looking for my room on the internet!
Thanks for a great article! I hope you have better luck betting than with you accommodation.
I wanted to try Founder on the grass again as that 92sp was a win by a big margin. On Paper it was a better win then the race before that which was on the dirt, if he can do the same sort of thing again he might have a shot.
Sadly for me these races are not run on paper though and there is a bit more quality in the race then I expected so he might lose that 100% placing record as you predict.
Thanks for the write up 🙂
Thanks for the write up. My horse continues to perplex me. I guess gonna try dirt now since I just can’t seem to hit the winner’s circle.
