Spotlight Race of the Day: Louisiana 7/21 Allowance
Three ladies will take on four gentlemen in a Louisiana bred 8.f furlong race. All seven are the age of three and the firm turf track will feature the race. Which sex will out do the other? Here’s a look at the entrants:
1 Dark Aguitar 10/1-Has only raced on this track during his career. Had top-three finishes at tail end of 2014 and beginning of 2015 race seasons. Form has gone down hill since topping 85 speed in listed stake race in March. May need some rest and a poor outing here could further support that.
2 Glam Cam 8/5-Race co-favorite ran nice 93 speed in last going 9f. Lost a bit of distance behind winner in stretch run but held for third. Trims a hair in distance in this race but speeds are better than most in the field which gives this colt a shot to top spot.
3 Guitar Thief 5/1-This colt has finished in top two spots in 11 of 16 races and has never finished worse than second at Louisiana. Able to run late and may be even better going longer. In any event, sported 91 speed in last setting a career mark and could pull off an upset here.
4 Dark Ibury 23/1-Filly may find this field a bit tough. Her best speed has been in mid-70 range and she’ll need to attach some rockets to blow past the faster runners in this field. Last two starts were listed stakes and allowance competing with the boys and she finished in back end in each race.
5 Dark Gripsley 11/1-Ran last two with Dark Ibury as stablemates in same allowance and stake race. Didn’t care for the longer stake race distance of 10f, finishing last but finished third in 6f allowance. Capable of running low 80’s and with a little racing luck, she could find a spot on the tote board.
6 Southen Brookline 9/1-Able to run on both dirt and grass, this filly has her sole win coming from a turf race last September. She comes off a pair of seconds with one coming from each surface. Speed of 85 in last on dirt was best of career and only time in 80-range. She needs bring a little more heat to this race.
7 Best Stop 8/5-Race Sponsor Varsitytwo gets co-favorite in this field who has a record of 4-1-0 in six outings, all on the Louisiana race track. All races were on the dirt and this colt will be going on grass for first time. Has 90+ speeds in three of last four and has some grass roots in breeding line.
Best Stop gets call here, should handle change in surfaces.
Guitar Thief has been going well, could be the spoiler.
Glam Cam tends to tire in stretch, still gets a piece.
