Veteran Field of Ladies to Line Up

A sound and competitive field of eight will line up for the running of the Rich Throat Stakes at Bayou Downs in Louisiana on Saturday.  This field has experience and many have handled this distance in the past.  As for a run down of the field:

FREE FROM BLANE  -pp.1 (Vindication x Storm Boot)  She likes to run on the front end of the pack, but has struggled the last two outings in staying the distance.  She may prefer a shorter trip than this mile and one-quarter.  This race is not loaded with speed, so expect her to try to set a moderate pace, and have something left to maintain the lead for the whole distance.

ONE GOOD START -pp.2 (Kingmambo x Caerleon) A veteran of forty starts and winner of over one half million in purse money, she likes to rates a few lengths off the pace and rely on a strong finish.  She has handled this distance and more in the past, so stamina should not be a problem.

PERFECT MOMENT –pp.3 (Awesome Again x El Prado(IRE)  This race appears to be a big step upward for this relatively lightly raced filly.

BOLD PEGGY –pp. 4 (Fusaichi Pegasus x Halo)   Winner of three stakes events in 2006.  He won each time at 9 furlongs in a drawing away manner, so distance should not be an issue.  Co-Favorite drew leading jockey (Oxon) for event.

GRAVEYARD DISCIPLE –  pp.5 (Kingmambo x Peintre Celebre (IRE) Ownership would like to toss out her run in the “We Shall Never Forget” grade III stakes.  She broke poorly and was never in contention.  A performance like her winning trip in the Pinkie Apex Bonanza Stakes is preferred.  Expect her to settle off the early pace, but close enough to be felt.

MACHING A STORM –pp.6  (Storm Cat x Machiavellian)  After struggling in three straight runs, she bounced back last time out in The Around the World Stakes to close to a runner-up finish.  She has a load of experience and could be a surprise.

APPALACHIAN SPA BG –  pp. 7  (Alysheba x A.P. Indy)  Ran a strong consistent race in the Deputy Prospector Stakes (last time out) and should be applying early pressure to the pace.

LAKEHOUSE –pp.8 (Sadler’s Wells x Irish River (IRE) The co-race favorite; she comes in with an impressive string of runs.  2006 has been a good year for LAKEHOUSE, and sound finish in this event will boost her earnings to over one million dollars.  Ran a close third- one length back- two races back in the Big Desert Stakes- gr. II, and will get pretty of play in this event.

I would expect FREE FROM BLAME to attempt to grab the early lead and set a moderate pace. Pressure on the backstretch should come from PERFECT MOMENT,LAKEHOUSE, and APPALACHIAN SPA BG.   Settling close but behind the early pack will probably be GRAVEYARD DISCIPLE, MACHING A STORM, and ONE GOOD START.  Hoping for a good brisk pace will be late runner BOLD PEGGY.  I like the current string of runs that LAKEHOUSE has thrown, but BOLD PEGGY could be flying in the stretch.

Selection:  LAKEHOUSE       BOLD PEGGY           ONE GOOD STEAL
