Group of Hopeful Owners Show Up in La.

Seven 2-years old fillies will be lining up for the running of the PRINCESA DEL NORTE Memorial on Saturday at Bayou Downs in Louisiana.

ACTIVIA                    3/1              zielissimo           Cat Thief x Seeking the Gold

Winner of two of three starts, she responded to her first test on the turf with an impressive allowance win at a mile.  She settled easily off the leader and was ready to pounce at the top of the stretch to narrowly pull off a win.

BOP’ IT                      6/1                   im3xwiser                Bop x Believe It

After two nice runs on dirt, ownership sent her to New Hampshire for a stakes run on the turf.  Her performance was nice enough to prompted her being shipped south for a second try on the turf. She hung tough throughout that grass effort, but may need to improve slightly to be a challenger here.

A.P. GIACOMETTI(IRE)   4/1   shamran4      Alberto Giacometti(IRE) x A.P. Indy

This is one filly that ownership wishes that their coming out debut in the KyHorseman Debutante would have been delayed.  The out come of her participation in that grade I event, was a poor last place finish and prompt ownership to switch to turf for this event.  How she will handle the new surface is still unsure, now may be the time to find out.

CHAPARRALED DANE(IRE)   8/1     manni153    High Chaparraled Dane(IRE) x Danehill

One for two on the turf (out of seven career starts)- grass may eventually be her preferred surface.  In her turf win, she led gate to wire, and showed alot of courage in that performance.

RAHY WOLRD         5/2               nywinger               Rahy x Spinning World

Six career starts with three wins, but has never been tested on grass.  With her breeding line, she best may be ahead of her.  She has faced some tough competition so far and has held her own.  No run on the turf would not discourage me on backing her in this event.

ALYMARA                3/1             lasthope1           Red Ransom x Miswaki

Won her debut on the turf in a strong “pulling away” fashion.  She should get a lot of play from that performance, but I suspect she will need to improve more to capture this event.

ABSOLUT CHIHULY      21/1    racefrgold         Seattle Bound x Alnaab

Won gate to wire in her racing debut, and has jumped up to this level for her second trip.  I suspect she may benefit from a less steep jump in class-but, if she shows a lot of improvement from her first run, she may prove me and the odds maker wrong.  That would not be a great crime.

A good field of two year old fillies with some testing the green material for the first time.  Bloodlines may prompt some to get added attention at the betting window. Handicappers will be challenged to narrow their choices in this event.  It should prove to be an exciting race, and don’t be surprised that more than one become future distaff stars on the turf.
