The Daisy En La Lass(FR) Challenge Stakes
On the card for today’s tenth race is the one mile and three eighths The Daisy En La Lass(FR) Challenge Stakes. The race, which is for three years old and up, will be run for a purse of $110,000. A total of six fillies and mares are entered to battle around the fast dirt track. Let’s get to know the field.
Staring from post one is the five year old mare Smokey’s Chant(5/2), trained by kody and ridden by J Dekeyser(5%). She is sired by War Chant x Nureyev. In her last race she faced Gr. I horses, finishing last of fourteen, that was also run on a track listed as good. She was the favorite in a race prior to that and didn’t lift a foot in that either. Maybe showing th effects of old age? Is the top money earner in the short field and does know how to find the winner’s circle.
In post two is the dawgpound trained Constitutional(IRE)(7/1), being ridden today by N Bonus(13%). She is a three year old daughter of Street Cry(IRE) x Carleon. Lightly raced filly is entered here to face older horses today for the first time. Another who faced Gr. I horses LTO, getting beaten by 6 1/4. With the step up to older competition she figures to be in to deep.
stakes enters Smarty Party(6/1) breaking from post three with R Simcox(14%) up. She is a four year old by Touch Gold x Pulpit. This five time winner goes to the post for her 34th time. Since her purchase at auction three races back, she’s finished third twice and second once. LTO ran third by 12 1/2 in a four horse field with speed fig. of 85. Faces much tougher here today.
In post four is the bigsruce trained, Shaky Legs(7/2), ridden by top jock F Gossett(23%). This five year old is by Fusaichi Pegasus x A.P. Indy. She hardly ever runs a bad race. LTO she won the Kenbar Shannon Stakes by 3 with a speed figure of 97, easlily the best last race figure of the field. If she can run back to that performance and with the track’s top jock riding, lookout! The pick.
Breaking from post five is Cal City Gal(5/1) ridden by A Dominguez(6%) and trained by windycity. She is a four year old daughter by Red Bullet x Unbridled’s Song. Five time winner and earner of almost $300k, BUT all five wins and all but $13,601 came on the TURF. She’s tried the dirt 5 times, placing second and third twice each. LTO she ran on the turf, so maybe she’ll improve a little off that on the turf/dirt angle but I doubt that. Sitting, watching and waiting for her first dirt win.
Breaking from the outside in post six is the favorite Royal Green(2/1), trained by lip and ridden by F Allen(13%). Four year old daughter of Royal Academy x Green Desert. Won a stakes race two back by 2 1/4 with a speed figure of 95. LTO she finished second to Shaky Legs( who she faces again today) by 3 with a speed figure of 94. In what appears to be a two horse race, I don’t think she’ll turn the tide on Shaky today.
