Barrier Reef Victory to Local Star

A combination of home track advantage and brilliantly devised riding tactics from jockey Tim Phillips and trainer United has seen Prabha beat an elite field in the Grade 3 Barrier Reef Stakes on the weekend.
The daughter of up and coming Aussie sire Testa Rossa defied all challenges to lead all the way in the $150,000 event and take her career earnings to over $460,000 with 8 wins in just 17 starts. This win was also her 2nd Grade 3 victory after winning her first G3 as a 2yo.
Although the race possessed plenty of speedy fillies, Prabha flew the gates and was able to control the tempo for most of the race. FALLING SKY closed strongly over the concluding stages but she ran out of straight. Certainly a great run but perhaps some question marks over the ride from Brett. No.1 ranked filly SUPER GOLD was probably a shade disappointing after getting a perfect run in transit behind the leader but couldn’t quite match them when they sprinted in the straight. The rest of the field were clearly beaten but I did note the run of BREEZING TURTLE who did make some ground from the tail of the field after being a mile back in the early stages. A slightly easier grade over a mile and she’ll be in the money.
All in all a great race and a great call from Gez.
