A weekend without any grade/group racing (well, since I’ve been here), leaves me with a wide range of listed stakes to consider for a preview. Since I usually cover Sunday racing, and this one has the most entries – awaaaaaayyyyy we go !
.
From Pocatello Downs in Pocatello, Idaho, we take a look at the Walther War Dirt Mare Special listed stakes, to be run at a mile and an eighth on the dirt oval here. G2 winner Kukaa Salama heads a field of ten older females looking to take the lion’s share of the $100,000 purse. Which of these ladies will get their 2015 campaigns off to a winning start ? Well, let’s take a closer look at the past performances in post position order and see if we can spotlight the contenders and possibly select the winner.

RICK NASH JPN sjmeola 7/1
.
.
Bay four year old, scratch bred Empire Maker filly (by Nureyev) didn’t appear to relish the sloppy going last out when a well beaten 7th in the Legally Bald listed stakes at 10 furlongs, posting a 93 SP#. One prior was a closing 2nd on a “good” surface in the Speed Again listed at this distance, scoring a 111 SP#. One back of that was a closing 2nd at 8.5 panels earning a 107 SP#. Won her only try at this trip; back on a fast surface, should be closing in the lane, can contend on top try for owner/trainer sjmeola. .

HANDLER KY phatom 18/1
.
.
She had a three race winning streak snapped when a never in it 8th last out in rhe Enter Royal Love listed stakes at a mile, earning a 103 SP#. Bay four year old daughter of Distorted Humor, out of the graded placed, stakes winning sim-mare Cascade (by Unbridled) won an open allowance at 8.25 panels one prior, notching a 106 SP#. One back of that was a score in a NW3L allowance at a mile with a 86 SP# in a stalking trip. Versatile runner from the phantom racing group can benefit from a crafty jockey ride, but will need to step up her game to contend in this heat.

KUKAA SALAMA KY platypuscz 5/2
.
.
Owner/trainer platypuscz drops this G2 winning, millionaire, brown four year old filly off an impressive 2nd in the G1 Breeders Bowl Distaff at this distance, notching a 111 SP# in a close to the pace run. One prior, this Street Cry miss out of the stakes winning, half million dollar earning sim-mare Lala Salama (by A.P.I Indy), just missed the money when 2nd in the G1 The Great Dane, also at this trip scoring a 113 SP#. One back of that was an easy win in the G3 Rose Garden Handicap, also at 9 panels, earning a 109 SP#. Well deserving favorite seems a standout here, very much the one to beat.

JET’S FURY KY jetman 25/1
.
.
Making her stakes debut is this four year old light grey filly, who was an uninvolved 7th in a NW3L allowance at this trip last out, posting a 97 SP#. Kitten’s Joy lass based on the graded placed, stakes winning sim he-mare More Than A Jet (by More Than Ready) came from 11th of 12 to win going away in a NW2L allowance at this trip, scoring a 103 SP# in one prior. One before that, she got underway to late to contend in a NW2L allowance at 10 panels. Faces tougher company today that she’s ever faced before, oddsmaker has her chances about right.

DT’S PACKED POWER IRE lglong2yoz 8/1
.
.
Dylan Thomas bay four year old filly out of the stakes placed sim-mare Power Pacted (by Deep Impact) disappointed as the favorite last out when 3rd in the Salaparuta listed stakes at 10 furlongs, posting a 96 SP#. One prior was a front-running 2nd in an open allowance at 10 panels, earning a 95 SP#. One back of that she just failed to last at 9.5 furlongs in an open allowance, scoring a 104 SP#. Should be involved in the early pace, can be dangerous for owner/trainer lglong2yoz if unchallenged early.

BISHOP’S CASTLE JPN jumbled 12/1

.
Another making her stakes debut is this Daiwa Major miss, out of the sim-mare Candy Kisses (by Monsun). Chestnut four year old filly won a NW4x allowance last try at 8.5 furlongs, notching a 106 SP# in an off the pace run. One before that she just missed in an open allowance at 7.5 panels, scoring a 103 SP# in a late running effort. One prior was a late running win at 7 furlongs, posting a 101 SP#. SP#’s are moving in the right direction, could surprise on best effort for owner/trainer jumbled.

.
.
Owner/trainer bearpride sends out this brown four year old filly off a closing 3rd in a NW4x allowance at this trip, scoring a 108 SP# . Should be gaining in the lane; oddsmaker like her chances making her the second choice in the morning line.

.
.
Light grey four year old filly seeks her third straight win at this distance.
