Barrier Reef Stakes
A small but select field of 6 ruuners do battle over 1400m for this year’s running of the Barrier Reef Stakes for 3yo fillies including number 1 ranked sprint filly Super Gold.
Lets have a look at the runners,
4/1 SUPER GOLD ~ Beautifuuly bred and looks to match, this impecible daughter of Seeking The Gold seems to favour this distance being a Grade 1 winner of this surface and over the 1400m trip. An on pace runner, she will make her own luck and with Wyatt steering, she’ll be very hard to beat.
2/1 FALLING SKY ~ Another beautifully bred filly out of AP Indy who is a multiple stakes winner but hasn’t tasted success from a Grade victory yet. Generally an on pace runner as well but has the versatility to sit back a little if needed. SP’s are great for this type of race and probably a deserved early favourite. The only negative is that the out of form Timmy Brett has taken the ride.
9/1 BREEZING TURTLE(IRE) ~ Lightly raced Turtle Island filly who seems to race best around this distance after a stakes win over 1500m and some nice placings over 1400m in her past performances. Gets back in her races and if all the breaks go her way, she’s in with a solid place claim.
6/1 KILLS THE PAIN(IRE) ~ Above average Giant’s Causeway filly chasing her 6 successive win. Rising in class here after 5 allowance wins but has definitely earned her start here. Likely leader and will certainly give them something to chase.
2/1 PRABHA(AUS) ~ Stakes winning Queensland filly who is in this race up to her ears. In great form at the moment going on her stunning victory here at Queensland in The TENANT HANA Memorial last month posting a 105 SP. Great Chance.
5/1 THUNDER LOVER ~ Stakes placed American filly making the trip “Down Under” after some solid performances. Just went down narrowly last start at Kansas posting a 101SP and would need a repeat of that to figure here. If she’s handled the trip, she’s an outside chance for an upset but I’d prefer to see.
What a race !!! What it lacks in numbers, this race certainly makes up for in quality. With such an even bunch you have to look at tactics and riding styles. SUPER GOLD has been the one to snare Chris Wyatt which makes her a standout in the race. There is an abundance of speed in the race so the jockey that takes the iniative and maybe sits just off the pace may take this one out. Local heroine PRABHA will give it her all and trainer united would have had her set for this race for some time. American visitors FALLING SKY and THUNDER LOVER will find it tough but are not out of it and BREEZING TURTLE could be the one to run the race of her life considering she is the only back marker in the race and the speed will be on all the way.
My selections: 1-5-2 (throw 3 in your exotics at odds)
