Cheyenne Gold Breezes

(SP)Wyoming- On the final day of festivities for the Bob Barker Stakes the sun has come out and it is a beautiful day. Everyone is sitting around and enjoying the live music and taking in the great smells of the BBQ steaks sizzling on the spits. Myself, I am waiting for the volcano style chilli to be ready for an agonizingly good treat. It is to bad the trainer ozioziozi didn’t stay around for these closing day’s fun, but loaded up his winner Cheyenne Gold and headed out to California. It seems he wants to get his girl used to the area while bandying about challenges to other trainers. Needless to say this hasn’t gone over well with the race fans here in Wyoming. Not the trainers desire to challenge for the #1 spot, but for their unthinking snub to the Wyoming fans.

Saturday’s race produced its slowest race of the series and the weather certainly didn’t help any. There was never any hard rain but a persistent drizzle that hung around all day long. Still the sophomores loaded up fine and the race went off with out a hitch. Cheyenne Gold broke at the front of the pack and never looked back as she stretched out her lead at each pounding hoof beat taking the wire an easy one and a half lengths in the lead. The surprise of the day was Daisy Ransom. She broke with the leaders as expected and then used her tenacity to stay there through most of the race. She lost out for a place and fell back to take a show, not by any lack of effort on her part, just that another horse had a better day. That other horse was Nightflyer. She once again had some trouble coming out of the gate that put her further behind than wanted, but she used a great ground eating kick to pull ahead just after third call to go on to place. All in all is was a good race if not a nail biter one is always wishing for.
