Spotlight Race of the Day: 10/7 Texas Claim

A field of eight horses will enter the gate in Texas to compete in a 7 furlong dirt claiming race.  Horses age four or older are eligible for the race as long as they are non-winners of one race over the past six months.  Only the boys entered this race with an odd claiming price of $6,250.

1.  LYING UNDER OATH  6/5

No better than fifth in last six races resulted in being sent to the farm back in February.  Makes return to raceway and may be a bit rusty but gets drop in claiming ranks to lowest of his career.  Speeds have hit 90’s back in 2013 and earlier this year were around mid-80’s and anything close to these numbers will result in a win.

2.  TRUE GLORY  16/1

Has raced on both dirt and grass this year with five starts, with a third on the dirt as best finish.  Speeds have been sub-80’s all season and after July turf race, this guy was sent to the farm for some conditioning.  he makes return after three month absence with hopes he can find some improvement in form.

3.  TRIP TICKET  14/1

Looks to be a victim of aggressive racing.  Speeds at the beginning of the year were above 80’s.  14 starts later, the speed numbers have slipped down and bottomed out at 67 in an early September race.   Off the board in last ten starts, this one is in need of a rest.

4.  TRACK SHIPMENT TED  3/1

Speeds have a range of 79 to 96 this season as this horse has a wide range of distances from 7 furlongs to 14 furlongs this season.   Appears to be in a good spot to earn a win with this field looking rather soft.  He’s never had a top three finish in five sprint races and may end that drought.

5.  SCARED  9/1

Speed numbers have steadily improved this season from 67 in January to recent pair of 84’s.   Raced in higher claiming levels in last three and takes significant drop.  Continued improvement in speed could show that the 9/1 odds are too generous.

6.  E CYNURE  7/2

Eleven year old colt seems to be showing his age.  After starting the year off with a third place finish and nice speed of 92, things started to head down hill.    He has not had a top-3 finish in last 7 starts and speeds dropped to the 77 speed charted in his last start which is the lowest in 7-years.   Time may be running out for this old man.

7.  FORETOKEN  8/1

Has only four starts this season as he sat out the first five months of the year.  Has a pair of third place finishes including one in last with $17,500 claimers.   After posting 78 speed, takes drop to lowest claiming level of his career.    Could find some benefit with the drop.

8.  FLEETING FIRE  31/1

Seven top-three finishes in 2014 have all come in local bred races and in fields smaller than this race.  In last five starts, has finished double-digit lengths behind the winner.  Top speed of 83 this year with all other races at 75 or less adds up to a tough task for this guy to over come.

Oddmakers seem to be on spot with this race, however, I am going with 3/1 Track Shipment Ted as my top selection as he has been actively racing, giving him the edge over the favorite.

Second pick is the favorite, 6/5 Lying Under Oath finds a nice spot to return to the track in after long rest break, can still make it to top spot.

Scared has improving numbers and drop in class and should benefit from both, third selection
