Sportnwood Distaff Grade III
1. 15574 TRIESTAR goody5 3/1. A 5yo Mare by Old Trieste. She is the filly that won this race last year. She has raced 33 times but only has 1 stakes win and one graded win, which of course was this race from 2005. In this race last year she closed from last place to win this race with a 100 SP. She’s raced 4 times this year with a 2nd in a 8f stakes, and most recently finished 4th closing from 15+ lengths to lose by only 2+ lengths in a 8.5f G3 race. She’s the only true come off the pace filly in this race, with the speed in here, I wouldn’t be surprised if she gets a repeat win in this race again this year.
2. 73810 ULTEGRA maruxa 5/1. A 4yo filly by Woodman, she’s the only filly in this race that doesn’t have Seeking the Gold in her pedigree. She has 19 career races, and they are split 9 and 9 dirt and turf. To me she runs about evenly on both surfaces. She’s tried this distance twice, this year finishing 4th on a wet track then last year getting a 2nd in a allowance race. She’s only broke the 100 SP barrier once, so I Would pass on her to win, but she could finish in the top 3.
3. 93777 COMPENSATION lenny12 9/5. A 4yo filly by Seeking the Gold, she is the 24th rank in this division and was also made the favorite in here. She’s tried 8f ten times in her career and has won half on them. Broke her maiden easily at 8f then finished 4th in the 1000 Guineas as a 3yo. This year she’s raced at 8f 3 times with a Grade 1 win and a stakes win then most recently finished last in a 5-horse field G3 race. Not sure what happened there with that 5th but her 2 wins this year were her best races however they were on wet tracks and she has run better on wet tracks than on dry. She has what it takes to win but the dry fast track is a question mark, so she is vulnerable.
4. 75528 SEEKING THE STORMER quentin 4/1. A 6yo mare by Rahy. Even though she’s 6yo, she has only 22 starts and has raced since 2002. She was running about only average her first 4 years racing but his year she has gotten a little better. She won here first 2 starts this year both in 8f allowance races. She then tried 3 stakes races and didn’t fare well in any except 1. Two starts back finished 5th in a 8f allowance then most recently got 2nd in a 9f stakes with a career high 103 SP. Only way she has a chance to win is if she can run back at least close to a 100 SP, could make the top 3.
5. 23776 SEEKING STEPHEN earthsong 5/2. A 4yo filly by Stephen Got Even. In 27 career races she’s only raced in route raced twice, but has a win and a third. She was an average 2yo but got better at 3 and then won her last 4 races last year which included 3 stakes, all sprints. Last year she finished 3rd in a 8f allowance race. This year she raced in her 2nd ever route race last time out in a 8f stakes going wire to wire to win with a career high 106 SP. That 106 SP is the highest in this field and it looks like she could win, but it will be hard with mostly frontrunners in here. Should make the top 3.
