The Miner John Special Stakes

This past weekend four horses went to the post in The Miner John Special Stakes run at 14 furlongs over a firm turf course. The day’s feature carried a purse of $65,000 and the post time favorite was Seat Back Forward.at even money.

When the gates snapped opened for the feature race, the favorite Seat Back Forward quickly went for the lead with Glasgow Kris (IRE) trying to keep pace.  Within a few hundred yards it was easy to see that Glasgow Kris (IRE) was not going to be able to keep up with Seat Back Forward and that one started to draw off while under tight wraps form jockey S.Noles.  As they came in front of the stands the first time Seat Back Forward had built an easy lead of six lenght’s and was building on that.  The rest of the pack was stretched out three out across the treack with A Notch Above movining into second position widest of all.  Glasgow Kris (IRE) was be shuffled back to third at this point and the late running Hungry Trick had yet to make his move and trailed by many.  As they continued down the backside Seat Back Forward continued to move comfortably and increased his lead to almost 10 lenghts.  A Notch Above was starting to fade, Glasgow Kris (IRE) didn’t look like he had much left for the stretch run and Hungry Trick was under way.  As they straightened into the stretch Seat Back Forward was still in control with that 10 length lead now cut almost in half, Hungry Trick was doing some running but it was not going to be enough today as Seat Back Forward won by almost 4 length’s in a well judged ride by S.Noles.  Hungry Trick was much the best of the rest outfinishing the rest of the field bt some 14 lenght’s.

Congradulations to Studkenny2  who wins back to back stakes with Seat Back Forward and three in the last four.  The $39,000 he banked this week increases his lifetime earnings to $1,144,032  It was his 14th trip to the winners circle in 48 strarts and is now ranked 43 in the long division.  Just a footnote  this reporter had the tri  4/1/3  not a huge deal in a 4 horse field, but beats ripping them up.  Good luck we will see you next week…….
