‘Geisha’ is lone speed in SLEEZY CAT
A short field of six has been drawn for the $45,000 SLEEZY CAT Memorial Stakes, which will be run over 7 1/2 furlongs on the turf course here at Texas Race Course. It’s the older fillies and mares that will be taking this extended sprint trip around the grass course which is expected to be firm for Saturday’s running. Here’s a look at the starters.
A.P. Geisha appears to be the controlling speed of the race, coming off of two consecutive gate to wire victories. One of those wins was over the same distance as Saturday’s event. That win came in the SHANNON DOCTOR Handicap at Eastern Kentucky. She covered the distance on that occasion in 1:29 2/5, and a repeat of that would likely put her and trainer sera in the winner’s circle for this one.
ipitombe sends out Gove Struck Gold, a four year old daughter of Carson City. This one just posted a 103 SP# in her turf debut in allowance company. Prior to that, she made her living on the main track, earning just shy of $130,000. A repeat of her last race could spell a victory, although she may need a stronger pace than she will get in here.
Hide and Chic goes out for trainer 2totango. This good looking daughter of Seeking The Gold comes into this race 2 for 2 since switching to turf. Last time out, she won a stake race over the lawn in Utah. With her staking style, she will be a threat to the early speed if the speed decides to back up down the lane.
Belle Of The Ball is one of the more experienced mares in the field, with 34 starts under her belt. She’ll be saddled by snake12, as she looks to make it five wins in her last five tries at this distance. By Atticus, this one is bred to love the turf, and she does just that – earning almost $500,000 on the weeds throughout her career.
bunnyluv’s Sultry Bunny is a bit of an outsider in this one. She enters this race off of a 5th place finish against conditioned allowance foes. Before that, she was soundly beaten in stakes company at this distance. Look for this daughter of Event Of The Year to force the issue early, but will she have enough left to be around late?
From the outside is another longshot, South Rim(IRE). Conditioned by divisional, this daughter of King Of Kings(IRE) was a beaten 6th against $25,000 claimers in her most recent start. She enters this race, which seems to be over her head, looking to regain her form from three starts back in which she won a 3x allownace race at this distance. She probably won’t be the winner, but may not be the one that leaves without a check.
