Real Accord edges out favorite to capture Brigadoon(GB) Special
Real Accord once again showed a flawless close, edging out the odds on favorite to capture this week’s Brigadoon(GB) Special. This is her third win in her last five starts, and she can now boast her first stakes win. This win pushes her career earnings up just over $130K, and boosts her rank in the turf classic division to 246. She has a very nice twelve top two finishes in eighteen turf starts, and this mare still has a lot of racing in front of her. Not much of a day for the betters among us, with the winner paying $6.00 $3.00 $2.20 across the board. Margin on the exotics was even slimmer, paying a mere $10 on the exacta, and $19.30 on the trifecta.
Pretty much as expected, Sleeping Beauty ended up in an early lead, closely shadowed by Cat Cape Canaskra and with Affirmed Thief sitting just off the pace. She managed to open up just over a length by the half, and with the leisurely front half pace, she looked like a good bet to walk away with this one. This race, though, was going to belong to the closers. That easy first half left them only five to six lengths out at the second call, a relatively small gap compare to what they are used to seeing. The stretch was a battle between favorite September Wingo and Real Accord, who swept past Sleeping Beauty in the stretch and dueled right down to the wire before this one was settled. When the dust cleared, Real Accord had registered a quarter length victory, just sliding by September Wingo. Sleeping Beauty held on to third place, two and a quarter out at the wire.
