Irish Will Battle in an Irish Titled Stakes

(SP)Wyoming- This last week end was one of the better more competitive stakes races so far this year. The first seven horses were all within two lengths of each other and there was an early engrossing battle for the win. Out of the blue like a Bolt Of Zeus came the winner of Another Cheap Star stakes. Well not really but she did run very impressively and came from the middle of the pack to win, a very uncharacteristic run for her. One I am sure the trainer is quite happy to accept. Taking place was a horse Bothered by the cheering near the finish line, or not. But it was her race to lose and unfortunately that is what she did. She could have given too much with her early head to head battle with Abadia Da Cova thus not having enough when it counted. Appealing as she may be, this mare could only pull off a show, also coming from the middle of the pack. Given a half more to run and she may have had a different outcome.

Spring is in the air and many of the stable owners have their minds on the new crop of two year olds that will be arriving soon in their stables. Although new hopefuls raise our pulses with all the potential that may be there, it should not keep our minds away from the track. That seems to be the case for this up coming weekend in Wyoming. There are only four horses entered for the running of the $55,000 Black Tie(IRE) Special, with one a track jouneyman. The race is a tribute to a mare with nine wins in turf stakes races. This tribute will also be run on the turf for three year olds, a nice nine and a half furlong route. Since this race is for so young of a horse you can see the reason for the consternation to the mild reception from the owners. Needless to say, the Wyoming racing fans are pulling for an upset win from the journeyman Gold Colony. Anyway, here are the our entrants.

Wicked Wench(IRE) entered by tesio. The chestnut Irish filly stays in Wyoming for this route too after her impressive debut stakes win last time out. She will be only running her fourth race of her career but the odds maker have tagged her as an early favorite even if she is going against the boys. She will have Vince Gannon in the irons again after the two ran so well as a team last time. This, along with her familiarity with the track, can only help the stalking lady, as there will be no surprises that could be detrimental.

King Over Aces(IRE) entered by attalaq. This chestnut Irish lad comes in with the most experience and the top favorite. He has four wins in a row and makes the short trip from Nebraska to Wyoming for the race. He is usually a closer, but on a short field such as this he will set the pace and defy the other racers to beat him. That could be a tall order for the others seeing as how he has not been on the board in only one career race. Sam Alt, a seven year veteran, will be in the irons for this race.

Gold Colony. This light grey journeyman comes into the race the sentimental favorite. It is not known why the previous trainer gave up on the colt, especially since he was starting to show some promise at routes. With more training he may well have developed into a solid runner. Maybe the trainer wanted just the stakes winners and not the every day work horse that all stables need.

Kandrakar entered by twopine. After opening his racing year with a win here in Wyoming he stays on for a go at this Saturdays stakes route. This time he is stretching out to the longest race of his career. He comes in at 29th in turf sprints and you have to wonder what the trainer is thinking. Especially since the horse has not run that well at routes. He will be paired up again with Jesse Sands in the irons and this may be the spark to get him around the track. But, does he have the stamina to last?
