1,000 BP Challenge Reaches Halfway Point
A good week with four going to post and all bringing in some valuable BP’s.
RACERS
35-1 longshot High Candy was placed into a turf $35k starter allowance and the field only had four runners. He ran like a longshot, finishing fourth and last. Speed of 80 matched his prior race result on turf in claiming event. He had a win for me on dirt which was with half a field of CPU owned racers. I may opt to shoot for the dirt next start. Not the best in the stable but got 7 bps which will be added to the bankroll.
Magoooooo made his second start in this month and he was also running in a short 4-horse starter allowance field but was the betting favorite at 4/5 (not the same race as High Candy). He ran well, at least early on, pressing the lead, but by the ¾ pole, he drifted back. By the end of the race he finished a beaten third, seven back in the mile race. He has been showing a history of running early and fading so I have set the jockey directions to 70 with hopes to pull him back a bit, but be in striking position. I have had him on the turf and may bring him back to dirt where the majority of his career starts have been. 12 BP’s picked up this week.
After winning his third straight a few weeks ago for me, I immediately entered Take Me into a $20k claiming turf race at 14 furlongs. Being that he was entered some three weeks ago, I was surprised to find another 4-horse field. The turf turned out to be yielding, and fortunately, Take me is a wet track runner. Rallying from the rear of the field in the back stretch, Take Me zipped to the lead at the head of the stretch and drew off to win by three. This makes four straight for this horse and earned 25 BP’s.
Not all fields were 4-horses, The Cartooner ran in a starter allowance of $12,500 in a field of 6 horses. He was added to my stable last month and brought a 5-race win streak into this event which earned him the favored odds of 9/5. This speedster went to the front and did not look back, wiring the field by a stride making it six in a row and his 9th win in the past 12 months. Gotta love the 37 BP’s that came along with the victory.
STABLE CHANGES
No horses were claimed this week nor were any placed into the auction.
CLAIMERS & AUCTIONS
I have three horses residing in the barn right now and am comfortable with the current status. Accordingly, I made not claim attempts nor any bids in the auction.
SUMMARY
A nice week with 81 BP’s picked up this week. I’ve passed the half-way point in this self-challenge with 522 BP’s to date, way more than I anticipated. Racing record stands at 11-8-6 in 34 races…also a lot better than I envisioned.
Magoooooo is no good!
Twice as successful as you anticipated !!
What say you go for 2000 BP on the year ?
