Rock’s Texas Cooking Series

The next leg of the Rock’s Texas Cooking Series over 1 mile and a quarter sees a whole new lot of entrants except for Six Pulpit’s trained by network7 who is back for another go.   Should be an interesting race with only a few longshots and the remainder of the field being fairly close knit as far as chances go.

As part of the Stakes race events of the day a cooking competition will be held by all who enter on who can make the biggest burger of the day.  Judges of which I am one will be judging not only size but also taste and presentation of the burger itself.  I like mine with lots of cheese, onion and barbeque sauce and a large coke would also help your chances of winning it. Hint hint…

Post 1:             12/1 INDEPENDENT STATE(IRE) (kevoman4)

At 12/1, this one has got fantastic odds considering the 4yo colt came in fourth 2 starts ago in a G1 race.   Followed that up with a solid second place in The Alyflock Bull Cap Stakes.  Although fully backed by the state, the horse and trainer have been rumoured to strike out on their own and become their own independently backed sponsors.

Post 2:             14/1 LILAC HOTEL (2122)

Has been performing consistently well at the Allowance level and the trainer 2122 has decided to test out Lilac Hotel at Stakes level here today.  Will need to step up in pace and yet maintain that level of consistency that the 5yo horse has shown to date.  A place or better finish will ensure that the hotel remains fully booked for a while yet.

Post 3:             6/1 WIZARD OF WESTWOOD (lieut60)

A magician at heart, the trainer is pulling out his bag of tricks here to get a good finish today.  One of the favoured runners at 6/1, backed up with a few impressive runs of late including a third place finish in the California Handicap G1 last time out has left both horse and trainer hoping against hope of a good finish here.

Post 4:             6/1 FORGOTTEN HALO (stoners)

Another of the more fancied runners, Forgotten Halo is coming off a win at Stakes level and a speed of 105.  Consistently getting 100+ speeds in both allowance and stakes company has placed this one with a fantastic chance to take this Stakes race out.  Will certainly not be the forgotten horse if he gets across the line first here.

Post 5:             19/1 SIZE OF A TROLL  (easytrip)

Its an interesting discussion the size of a troll. A troll is defined as “a fearsome member of a mythical anthropomorph race from Scandinavian”.  Obviously then the larger the troll the more fearsome you would be taking into account that definition.   However this is a horse race we are talking about and trolls aren’t allowed to race here. Not in the same race anyway.  This 6yo has been running well in Allowance but I think is going to struggle a little here. Still if he becomes fearsome and acts troll like you never know.  Not likely but possible chance.

Post 6:             12/1 OLD PULPIT (sunkitten)

Old Pulpit is not old. In fact he’s only a 4yo Colt.  But he is out of Pulpit so that bits right. Come back in 2 years and the whole name will be right.  As to his chances he’s one of the horses that if you back and he comes in you win a ton of money. Wouldn’t consider him a longshot not with a second place finish in a G2 race 2 starts back but certainly not of the favourites here.  Will need to produce a good run to finish across the line first.

Post 7:             68/1 EMILY’S BEST (chbrown)

Youngest in the race, this 3yo colt is out of Pleasant Tap and bred and trained by chbrown. At 68/1 is by far the longshot of the race and obviously the bookies think this one has no chance. No chance at all.  I disagree. Has only had 5 starts for 3 wins with one of this wins a Stakes win last time out.  Has never finished worse than third. I think this one could surprise everyone.  Place I believe.

Post 8:             8/1 TETE RAINBOW(IRE) (vertain)

Another consistent performer particularly in the allowance levels is Tete Rainbow (IRE) trained by vertain.  Failed miserably last time out at G1 level but if you discount that failure as a once off his previous runs have been consistent if not spectacular.  You can bet the rainbow will be high in the sky if he comes in today.

Post 9:             8/1 IN THE DARK (semi)

This 5yo horse is sensational at running in the dark. Seems to have an uncanny knack of knowing where the track is, where the horses are and where the finish line is. All in the Dark.  Unfortunately this race is not in the dark but in the bright sunshine. Pity. Still has a good chance of getting a place though.  Who knows…

Post 10:           8/1 BLENDER BEV(IRE) (snappa)

Lightly raced 7yo horse with only 20 outings for 5 wins in his career.  Bred from British lines should have the stamina and power to go round here.  Has produced some good speeds of late and is yet another contender for the finish line. It is a close race mind you so anyone could wind up the winner here.  Good chance for the Blender though.

Post 11:           11/1 OPEN THE GATE (deantroops)

4yo Colt which has lightning starts from the gates every time he runs.  Well almost every time. But with a name like Open the Gate and bred from Jump Start you would expect he could start fast.  No matter whether he starts well or not though he is certainly a good finisher.  Consistently getting place or win finishes, deantroops trainer will be hoping for another good run today.

Post 12:           11/1 FORTY NINTH STORM (dundey3)

Let me guess… Bred out of Forty Niner and Storm Cat.  Yep Im right. Too easy hey… Coming off a Stakes win is probably right on the money as far as the bookies go with a possible win here.  Will have to find some more speed to be sure of it though in what is shaping up as a very very close and tight race.

Post 13:           12/1 GO FOR SONG (gowand5)

In a bid to help this one get to the finish line first, the trainer has arranged for a choir of singers to be placed there to help this one go to the song. Ok its lame…  At only odds of 12/1 I think this one should probably be at longer odds.  Has produced some very fast runs a while back but not of late.  Will need to find that fast running rhythm and hey maybe the singers will help him out here.

Post 14:           6/1 SIX PULPIT’S (network7)

Backing up after his last run which was on the previous leg of this series where he finished fourth and a fast speed of 104. Definite chance here today and he already knows the track and series well.  Trainer hoping for a win for sure and I think he might just get it.  You’re looking at the winner here today folks…
