Fourteen Race For The Bomb in Illinois

Welcome to Illinois this lovely Saturday afternoon… We are about to put a cap on a full day of racing with the big race on today’s card. The next race is the GIII Somebody Set Us Up The Bomb Stakes, a mile and a half race for all horses 4 year olds and up on a Fast Dirt course.  A long name for a long race, so let’s see who has shown up in this full field of 14…

First up in the post parade here today, in PP1, is #27430 Silver Canuck. A pher trained 5 year old brown horse by Silver Deputy out of Queen Alice (Kingmambo x Northern Raja) and is 25/7-6-0 lifetime.  This $3 million dollar man definitely has got the class to win here today, having won some GI stakes, including the California Handicap, where he posted his career high sp of 113.  He has never gone 12fl, but by the look of his last race, it shouldn’t be much of an issue.  He is the co-favorite at odds of 5/1 and is being ridden by Y. Dunbar.

Next up, in PP2, we have #91135 Chasing Dreams, a 4 year old brown colt trained by montalcino.  He is a son of Deputy Minister out of a Mr. Prospector bred mare and is 9/4-1-1 lifetime.  Here is a very lightly raced 4 year old, having had only 9 starts, but so far has done decently in his routes.  He has entered the realm of stakes races with a win last time out in an ungraded event.  He is another who has not gone this races distance, so he has a lot to overcome, with that and the class in this field, if he wants to hit the board today.  He is off at 17/1 and has P. Williams in the saddle.

Coming up, in PP3, is #79208 Boy On A Mission(IRE).  He is a 6 year old chestnut horse trained by drturf and is by Fastiyev(IRE) out of a Desert Secret(IRE) mare and is 34/7-10-5 lifetime.  This is the first of two 6 year olds in today’s race, and he still looks like a solid performer.  He is a multiple ungraded stakes winner, but his graded forays have not been as solid as his ungraded have been.  He has shown he can race at this distance, so that might give him a chance to sneak up to hit the board.  He is starting off at odds of 9/1 and has jockey M. Bowen in the irons.

Next, in PP4, we have #15559 Slither, a peeps6 trained 5 year old chestnut horse by Deputy Minister out of a mare by Gone West and is 21/7-4-1 lifetime.  This big guy may not have made as much money as the other co-favorite, but he is nothing to look down on.  He is a graded stakes winner, including the DPCD Classic.  His speeds at the distance are enough to give his rival in PP1 a run for his money.  He is our second co-favorite at 5/1 and is being ridden by M. Reveiz.

Next in our post parade, in PP5, is #54233 King’s Robbery(IRE).  He is a 5 year old brown kj trained horse by King Of Kings(IRE) based on Art Fred (Robellino x Arts And Letters) and is 33/6-7-1 lifetime.  This fellow faced Slither in their last race, the Edward Garrison, and beat him.  He is another that has proven he can be a solid competitor in these long route stakes events, so he will be another one to watch out for in today’s race.  He is off at odds of 9/1 and has jock P. Munoz in the irons.

Up next, in PP6, is #92008 Sith, a 4 year old lurve trained brown colt.  He is a son of Forty Niner out of a Northern Dancer bred mare and is 9/4-2-0 lifetime.  Here is another lightly raced 4 year old, but has shown himself to be a better allowance type runner than a stakes horse.  His only stakes try ended with him finishing 6th.  He will have a tough day ahead if he wants to take this one here today.  He is starting at odds of 10/1 and has A. Ching taking up the reins today.

Right in the middle, in PP7, we have #8714 As Wells Mambo.  He is a 4 year old ruby6 trained brown colt by Sadler’s Wells based on King Soprano’s(Kingmambo x Irish River(FR)) and is 14/5-3-0 lifetime.  This colt has been another solid allowance runner, making his first stakes run 3 starts back with good results.  His stakes runs have been decent but his speeds have not been as stellar as those of some in this field.  He can go the distance, but can he outrun some of the other boys in this race?  He is off at 17/1 and has D. McCants in the saddle.

Next up, in PP8, is #88583 Western Quest, a 4 year old mizunomp14 trained brown colt by Rainbow Quest out of Many Launch (Gone West x Lyphard) and is 19/6-4-3 lifetime.  Here we have another GI Edward Garrison runner, who finished third.  Overall, despite the fact that this horse sounds familiar to me, he has been a solid stakes runner, in both graded and ungraded events.  He seems to be a solid competitor who can go the distance and likes to fool the odds makers.  He is off at odds of 9/1 and has jock R. Logan up.

Coming up next in the post parade, in PP9, we have #97169 Rainbow Knight.  He is a saintly271 trained 4 year old chestnut colt by Seeking The Gold out of a mare by A.P. Indy and is 14/2-4-3 lifetime.  Another good allowance runner with mixed stakes results, but he won his last start, which was at this distance.  This will be his first graded appearance and he has drawn into a pretty tough crowd.  He will definitely have his work cut out for him today.  He is starting at odds of 16/1 and has D. Anderson taking up the reins.

Next, in PP10, is #19746 Sinkiewicz, a 4 year old jpcrazy trained brown colt by Seeking The Gold out of Cielo Uno (Conquistador Cielo x For Really) and is 15/3-2-2 lifetime.  This colt spent his early career on the turf, but switched over late last year with good results.  He has had good results in his 3 stakes tries and this will also be his first graded event.  He can go the 12fl, but will likely have speed issues with most of the other runners here today.  He is off at 21/1 and is being ridden by N. Dubbs.

Then, in PP11, we have #25160 Captain Jim.  He is a 5 year old brown gosox trainee by Captain Bodgit out of a Far North mare and is 33/11-7-2 lifetime.  Here is another making his first attempt at graded races, but this big guy is coming off of a three race winning streak.  And his speeds in most of his long route races have been good enough to give any runner here a run for his money.  He is at odds of 6/1 and has jock V. Fraser in the saddle.

Up next, in PP12, we have #33776 Party Music.  He is a 4 year old brown cjt1 trained colt by Harlan’s Holiday based on Spirit Tom (Palace Music x Dominion(GB)) and is 27/5-3-1 lifetime.  In my opinion, this colt is a far better allowance runner than he is a stakes horse, as most of his stakes results have been dismal.  He will really need to kick it up a few notches to hit the board today.  He is off at odds of 19/1 and has jockey T. Smaron up.

Next, in PP13, is #86144 Band Leader, a 5 year old domedriver trained brown horse by Machiavellian out of a Nureyev bred mare and is 27/7-2-5 lifetime.  Most of this guy’s success came during his 3 year old year, but is coming off of a pair of allowance wins.  His recent stakes races have been ok, but not stellar.  He is going to need to be on his toes today to have a chance today.  He is starting with odds of 11/1 and has B. Bryant up.

And, last but not least, in PP14, we have #86024 Skunkanisi(IRE), a redflag1 trained dark grey 6 year old horse by Kalanisi(IRE) out of a mare by Stage Door Johnny and is 25/6-3-3 lifetime.  The second of our two 6 year old runners, he doesn’t seem to be letting up much either.  His past stakes events have been decent, but his graded stakes are a little less stellar.  He was another GI Edward Garrison runner, finishing 4th.  He might have a chance if he decides to pick it up a bit.  He is off at odds of 12/1 and is being ridden by S. Robertson.

The way I look at it, we have a horse race with a lot of wild cards.  There are many proven graded runners and some that could surprise here today, but I like the 1, the 5 and the 8 to round out my top 3, but there are too many options to take into account.  Well, they’re in the gate, waiting for the bell…. Good Luck and Good Racing!
