1,000 BP Update….Balance Continues to Grow!

This week I had four horses entered and I expected that at least one (perhaps even two) horses would be claimed and realistic believes that I would be entering one into the auction after the race.  With that in mind, I pursued to add to the barn.

RACERS

Take Me made his second start for me.  He won in early January in a $25k claiming race and I kept him at the MA track.  In doing so, he was dropped down to a $10k claiming tag and went a shorter 11 furlongs (13 last race).   Dropping to the rear of the field in the six horse race he put his wings on going into the final turn and overtook the leaders in the stretch to win by two lengths as the 9-5 favorite.   Earned 25 BPs from the win, five less than the first start due to the drop in class.    Speed of 87 was better than 78 in last and seems to be running very comfortably.  No claims made on him, so he’s still mine.

This week I opted to send We Preserve on the dirt as it’s been 2 years since he competed on the surface and hoping the Awesome Again sire bloodline would click.  He was entered into a $12,500 claiming race and with his bloodline, I fully expected that he would be picked away from me.   He went off as the 3-1 co-favorite and linked into an early battle racing 10f.  He eventually broke away and drew to a two stride win and earned 15 BPs and no one claimed him.  Nice speed of 92 as he has convinced me that dirt is a very viable option.

I ran Foxzzene on the dirt last week as his prior four starts were all turf and not encouraging.  The dirt race was a disaster so she was flipped back to a turf race and ran in $3,500 claimers restricted to local breds.  2-1 were her odds in the four horse field with a pair of CPU owned also competing.  I was happy to see that as CPU’s are usually not that competitive and that was the case here.  Foxzzene went to the rear and rallied late in the 6f race but couldn’t catch the favorite, finishing second with a lifetime best speed of 62.   She brought back 20 BPs but I’m not happy with her so I will be placing her into the auction.

A Kings Event somehow was able to snake his way into a short field of four horses in a NW2L $2k claiming race.  Sent off at 3/2, he was the second choice with the bettors.   Going a distance of just over  a mile, he took to the lead and held it into the stretch where the favorite would batter him down and I had to accept second as the consolation.   Notching off a career best speed of 73 he also earned 27 credits.  Not a tremendous effort and I will be thinking about what I want to do with him going forward.

CLAIMERS & AUCTIONS

I made an auction bid on Chagnet, a five year old out of Brown Chatelet who has been racing horribly lately.  He has not finished closer to the winner than 15 lengths in last five starts with speeds diminishing.  He’s racing over his head with the allowance class and odds of 18-1 and higher during these start support this.   In 11 starts between claiming and starter allowances he has been on the board 10 times.  That’s the optimal place for this fella.  I placed a $500 bid on the horse and won it for the price of only $51.

STABLE CHANGES

With one horse heading into the auction, I now have an opening on the active roster so I am opting to fill that with Chagnet.  I’m pretty eager to put the horse into claimers and see what will happen.

SUMMARY

Made 87 BP’s on the track this week.   Now at 296 BP’s and I like the accumulation!!!   Over $158,000 in cash and a record of 6-4-2 with 16 starts.
