Flygroom’s To Bring Home The Gold
This week’s feature race in
A field of seven face the starter and down the card –
#1 Rulzig (5/1) – Run3win. 5 year old horse by Balcony out of a Virginia Privateer mare, 34 runs, 8 wins.
A huge step up in trip for this horse who has never run over further than 9½f in the past, the furthest he has won over is a mile, has been campaigned in claimers this season and this looks like a last ditch attempt to revitalise this horse, however looking at his race record I cannot see this horse staying this trip as he is usually run down in the straight. A trip too far for this horse.
#2 Edgar Allen Pony(Ire) (15/1) – Irishluck2. 5 year old horse by Theatrical out of a
Has won over 11f in the past, not a horse who likes to get his head in front too often, in fact all his win have been on his final start of each season, free running sort who looks like he runs on empty down the stretch, will need to conserve his energy to last home.
#3 Placebo(GB) (11/1) – Kitana. 6 year old horse by Entrepreneur out of a Darshaan mare, 48 runs, 9 wins.
Proven over the trip, a regular to stakes class but struggling to find the winner’s enclosure and has only visited it three times in the last two years although his last win was a Grade I over this trip, failed to shine this year in his last two starts finishing well back and hard to see him troubling the judge this time. Possibly this horse has had his day.
#4 Smart Nijinsky (7/2) – Vokey. 5 year old horse by Smart Strike out a Nijinsky II mare, 30 runs, 11 wins.
A horse who gets better with age, winning 7 starts last season, 4 of which were Stakes races, just a good on his sole start this year when romping home over 16f, a horse with nothing to prove and all the ticks in the right boxes, a major contender. Likes to race handy but could be done by a horse with a finishing kick. Will be making a strong bid from the front.
#5 Flygroom’s Goldie (2/1) – Kyrin. 5 year old horse by Sadler’s Wells out of a Java Gold mare, 38 runs, 14 wins.
Another who has improved with age, bloomed into a serious marathon horse and has won his last four starts all in Stakes races, impressive in all three of his starts this season especially last time out when posting an SP in treble figures over 16f. Likes to run from well off the pace but with a lack of strong finishers in this race this shouldn’t be a problem. Should come late with a decisive turn of foot.
#6 Exotic Code(Ire) (5/2) – Freedominic. 5 year old horse by Tamure our of a Polish Precedent mare, 22 runs, 4 wins.
Relatively lightly raced horse, has done the bulk of his racing around 10f, has tried this trip once in the past and was seen doing his best work late on, has yet to win a Stakes race but has several placed efforts to his name, can’t see him having a problem with the trip and will be running on late. Looks like another placed effort today.
#7 Alzado (6/1) – Ophipps. 5 year old horse by Alzao out of a His Majesty mare, 27 runs, 10 wins.
An adequate allowance runner who showed marked improvement when stepped up in trip, who was a great claim for his current trainer when he ‘stole’ him for $3,500, never out of the first three since switching stables including picking up a Stakes race over 16f, will relish every yard of this trip and should do himself justice. Has the ability to be there or thereabouts and should keep his impressive record for this trainer.
An interesting contest with two major players and two who could quite easily spring a shock, I will stick with Flygroom’s Goldie to win and Smart Nijinsky to chase him home.
Good luck to all
