EQUINICS 2014 – NOBODY’S PERFECT

Equinics 2014

Nobody’s Perfect

Grade One – 3 yo Filly only 8f Turf

This is a tribute race for those that have made major mistakes in the game and have survived.  So far there are four players that have fessed up to making a mistake.  I’d be willing to bet there are more, I for one.  Some perhaps like me, just don’t remember, others perhaps hide it in shame and/or disgrace.  Misery loves company so I can’t wait to hear their stories which will be coming soon in another article.

STILL A BARGAIN – Kahal x Jallad x Al Mufti – Breeder/Owner: Safrace5/Saftest – Record:  8 races 5-1-1

Impressive South African bred is running for only the second time outside of her native born country.  Representing South Africa Racing Association,  Still A Bargain improved greatly when stretched out to a mile posting a 99sf in an overnight stakes.  Position on the rail will help push the front runners that much harder which may work to her advantage.

PP# 1   Odds:  16/1

Jockey:  T. Brewer

THE SEVENTH SEAL – Bernardini x Montjeu x Seeking The Gold – Breeder/Owner: Super28/Super1 – Record:  8 races 5-1-1

DelPenn National  entry is currently ranked #4 turf route.  She broke her maiden first time out on the outside track and followed it with an allowance win.  Her third race switched surface in an overnight stakes with a disappointing finish.  The trainer didn’t let that bother and continued to compete on turf.  The next five races were turf routes winning three stakes, two of which were graded.  The Seventh Seal has one race as a 3yo posting an impressive 102sf in the win against GR Simsters.

PP# 2   Odds:  6/1  M/L Favorite

Jockey:  J. Stivers

CAPE CONTENDER – Cape Cross x Dylan Thomas x Giant’s Causeway – Breeder/Owner:  Con10der/Con10der11 – Record:  5 races 3-0-0

Empire State Racing has sent #94 ranked Cape Contender.  Lightly raced but has shown promise after being asked to go two turns.  She’s going to need to stay close and not let the pace setters get too far out front.  Good post position to keep an eye on one particular horse.

PP# 3   Odds:  12/1

Jockey:  B. Gulch

MOUNTAIN DEWDROP – Canford Cliffs x Diesis x Noactor – Breeder/Owner: Shaga5/Shaga5 – Record:  7 races 2-5-0

Hit the board every time out.  Is going to need to shake that seconditis and find more speed to be in the money here.  Comedy Central has sent Mountain Dewdrop to help set the pace.  Dew Or Dye baby, can dew.  First run as a 3yo let’s make it a big one.  Yes, I have been drinking.

PP# 4   Odds:  28/1

Jockey:  M. Buck

DANNUS – Catienus x Broad Brush x Danzig – Breeder/Owner: Dayzey/Dayzey – Record:  6 races 2-1-1

Improved greatly after being given more track.  Shipped over the pond representing Midas is the hopeful Dannus.  She’ll need more improvement to get in the money but as we’ve all heard, on any given day.  You just never know.

PP# 5   Odds:  19/1

Jockey:  D. Evans

ARSENAL OF FREEDOM – Frankel x Street Cry x Silver Hawk – Breeder/Owner: Spinaround/Eminc3 – Record:  7 races 3-2-1

Blazing Saddles has sent Arsenal of Freedom who has won three out of four routes in her short career.  Looks like she’ll make a push to the front going into the first turn where there’ll be a lot of company.  Will need to improve in her second race as a 3yo.

Style = pace

PP# 6   Odds:  10/1

Jockey:  R. Harzheim

PICTURE OF MOM – Ready’s Image x Elusive Quality x Generous – Breeder/Owner: Kiddman/Concordite – Record:  7 races 2-1-0

Last race was eight weeks back so she’s well rested.  Only one route in her career which she won in a residency allowance.  Minnesota Testbarn Residency is hoping Picture of Mom will be giving her best effort in this major step up in class.

PP# 7   Odds:  26/1

Jockey:  T. Behr

FIRTH OF FORTH – Giant’s Causeway x Forty Niner x Deputy Minister – Breeder/Owner: Joenova/Joenova – Record:  7 races 3-1-0

Had a fantastic start as a two year old winning her first three races.  Has yet to win a route.  East West Connection sends Firth of Forth to attempt a place in history.  Needs a big boost to stay in the mix.

PP# 8   Odds:  25/1

Jockey:  E. N. Tice

CAKE OF LIGHT – Dream Ahead x Forestry x Danzig – Breeder/Owner: Tees/Younggroup – Record:  7 races 2-3-1

Won the G2 Silver Spoon Juvenile by ¾ of a length coming from a deep close displaying strength, stamina and speed.  EAAA Racing has sent the Cake of Light.  I’ll take a big slice of that.

Style = deep closer

PP# 9   Odds:  16/1

Jockey:  F. Gossett

RESET MAJOR – Reset x Rock Hard Ten x Seattle Slew – Breeder/Owner: Cjwilson/Bailey1 – Record:  9 races 5-2-2

Impressive record, impressive horse.  Definitely has a nose for the wire.  The odds makers like what they see in Reset Major sent by Queensland Racecourse.  This will be her first race as a 3yo.  They’re raising the bar for this one, expect her to make the hurdle.

Style = pace

PP# 10   Odds:  8/1

Jockey:  C. Wyatt

SAVYDAN – Savabeel x Dansili x Forty Niner – Breeder/Owner: Mano/Thechef – Record:  7 races 5-1-0

From Pastures of Green, ladies and gentlemen this is the number one three year old filly on turf.  Broke her maiden at first asking followed by a win in an overnight stakes race and three graded wins the most recent of which was eight furlongs in The Juvenile Filly G1 posting a 100sf.  That grade one was her last race back on December 15th.  Well rested and poised to start her 3yo campaign in a big way, Savydan.  Style = stalker

PP# 11   Odds:  8/1

Jockey:  L. Radzinski

PRANZO – Lawman x Elusive Quality x Tapit – Breeder/Owner: Bobilo/Bobilo – Record:  9 races 3-4-1

Very consistent allowance runner.  Pranzo, representing City-Race Rhein-Main Turf Club will need some help.  She’s going to have to stay off pace and hope the rockets in front burn out.

Style = pace

PP# 12   Odds:  13/1

Jockey:  J. Jubel

TURF STARS – Sea The Stars x Sadler’s Wells x Street Cry – Breeder/Owner: Perky3/Baffster – Record:  7 races 4-0-1

Multiple stakes winner with seven weeks rest last posted a 100sf.  Turf Stars from All-Stars Racing appears to be ready to make the next step.  Opposing jockeys best know where this one is at all times, she’ll be flying around the final turn.

Style = deep closer

PP# 13   Odds:  12/1

Jockey:  T. Ace

ITCHY TWISTY – Scat Daddy x Storm Cat x Sadler’s Wells – Breeder/Owner: Be1stfarms/Be1stfarms – Record:  7 races 2-4-0

Has been a consistent seven furlong sprinter.  May not have enough to go the extra distance.  With a sire like that I wouldn’t be surprised if we weren’t possibly soon looking at one of the better 3yo filly turf sprinters.  Scratch me if you can,  it’s Itchy Twisty representing Northwest Racing Circuit.

Style = closer

PP# 14   Odds:  19/1

Jockey:  R. Mansur

PIVOTAL DREAM – Oasis Dream x Pivotal x Sadler’s Wells – Breeder/Owner: Ticketman3/Ticketman3 – Record:  6 races 2-2-1

Same jockey she had in the irons for last year’s Breeder Bowl where she finished second by only ¼ length.  No stranger to tough competition, Pivotal Dream representing GR Simsters, is one of the top favorites.  This just in … “jockey shaves all hair off to shed weight.”  Not a bad idea, much better than waxing it off.

Style = closer

PP# 15   Odds:  7/1

Jockey:  O. Brim

DALHAM HALL – Galileo x Kingmambo x Halo – Breeder/Owner: Monumental/Suicidas – Record:  5 races 3-1-1

Really perked up two races back with a 98sf in the URC breeders championship last November and last time out didn’t have to try against a weak field over nine furlongs.  Dalham Hall representing Universal Racing Club has a chance to step it up a notch.  With 100% ITM she knows where the wire is, just got to get there first.

Style = pace

PP# 16   Odds:  12/1

Jockey:  C. Matas

K’S FIFTH AVENUE – Frankel x Seeking The Gold x Danzig – Breeder/Owner: Ledwith/Ledwith2 – Record:  5 races 3-1-1

Showed an affinity for more track last time out in a 7 ½ furlong posting a 96sf.  Has yet to run a route and some of the competition she’s run hasn’t been all that tough.  K’s Fifth Avenue representing Hispano Parlante going two turns for the first time still has a chance in this race, because it’s a Ledwith horse.

Style = closer

PP# 17   Odds:  13/1

Jockey:  S. L. Ledwith

Wishing all the horses and their connections the Best of Luck!
