Second Leg Draws Full Field
Second Leg Draws Full Field
Texas – Fourteen horses will go postward on Saturday for the second leg of the Rock’s Texas Cooking Series. Unfortunately none of the point earners from the first leg are in the field. For the owners and trainers that’s a good thing as everyone starts on an even keel. For the series promoters – well maybe not such a good thing, since the spirit of the event was to find a champion that could perform well at all the distances. Maybe there aren’t any jack-of-all-trades sim horses. Whatever the reason, it will be a full field with several horses having a great chance over the mile distance and a shot at the $200,000 prize money.
Looking at the field from the inside post out, in post one we have Bigkev’s Canugra Folly (8/1) a 4YO son of
Post two will be Cannonball Commin (9/1) a 4YO by Stravinski. Conditioned by Aura75 he has been in the money 11/14 starts and has won six of them. He comes in off a win in the Alygad Cap with a speed figure of 109. His jockey is a bit worse than number one and is looking for his second win of the year.
Black Magic Cat (22/1) is a 4 YO son of Storm Cat and is owned and trained by Shanx. His last win was four back in an allowance race but he is another that should improve when the distances get longer.
Inhalers will send out the 94th ranked colt, Bubble Toes (7/1) by Aptitude. Two of his last three wins have been at a mile so he likes the distance. All in all, he has won six of 25 and may be one to watch for this event.
Fact Of The Matter (5/1) will break from post five and is a 4 YO son of
Ho Yo Yo (16/1) is a 5 YO horse by Miswaki and will break from post six. The Yoyo36 trainee is a winner at the mile distance but has yet to successfully make the class jump from allowance to stakes.
Hilary7170 trains Key Lime (9/1) the first of two by Lemon Drop Kid. His last win was three back in the Marc Nijinsky Cap at a mile and he has won five of 21. This is probably the best chance for this 6 YO to score some points.
Louis Quatorze is represented by his 5 YO son Golden Dreams II ( 7/1). Conditioned by Calmriver2 he is ranked # 88 and has won seven of 19. A winner of two of his last three, both at longer, and he tends to throw a stinker in the middle of two good efforts. Guess which race this is?
Post nine will hold Goochee (18/1) a 4 YO son of Cryptoclearance. He has won three of his last six including two at a mile but they were both allowances. He has won five of his 16 starts for trainer Vacafarms and maybe he can get his jock win number two for the year.
Six Pulpits (10/1) will break from post 10 and is a 4 YO son of Saratoga Six. He is trained by Network7, part of the Manni conglomerate and is ranked # 25. He has seven wins from 20 starts and seems to prefer longer. His last win was eight back in the Grade II Clerk Of Scales some nine months ago.
Lele will saddle Huge Glacken (14/1) a 4 YO son of Smoke Glacken. He has a better record as a sprinter than a router but has six wins from 26 starts. He hasn’t won in awhile, but has some gas and may try to go gate to wire.
Post 12 will hold Senor Sam (14/1) a 4 YO son of Black Sam Bellamy. Trained by Roberto he has won six of 19 starts but more impressive – he is 14/18 in the money. He won the Grade III Maxxed Platinum Plate three back at longer but he is trained by one of the best and the guy loves this breeding.
Star Of Buda (19/1) is a 4 YO son of Kingmambo and is owned and trained by Juju. He has five wins from 19 starts and he loves the distance. He has easily won two of his last three, both at a mile but they were at the allowance level and he will need to step up on Saturday.
On the far outside in post 14 is Scotian Kid (6/1), the other Lemon Drop Kid in the race. The 4 YO is trained by Dougiec5 and has won four of 20 starts. He comes in off a win in the Whirlaway Cap at mile and a sixteenth and while he has the class he also drew a rider that is looking for his third win of the year. Ranked # 58 he has a better record sprinting but may be able to get the job done on Saturday.
All in all, it is a well-matched field and should be a fun race to watch and see if any of these horses will come back for the next leg.
